Exterior needs remodel. Advice please :)

Picture #1 above: This is how it currently looks...Even the cat hates it.

Picture #2 Above: This was my attempt on the home hardware design program. It still feels dated to me. Here's a little background:

I am on an acreage in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

I am open to any colors but would like to keep soffits and facia white if possible.

I like the look of thick trimming and will be replacing front door.

I think a patio in front or deck for a small outdoor living space might be a good way to enhance the front but all my attempts at drawing them look awkward.

I like timber accents but am unsure if they will look like an afterthought.

I like how new homes now have a lot of color blocking and thick trim but I am unsure how to design it on this exterior as it has little dimension and only one peak.

Below is another failed design attempt I made for reference.

I like the siding color and design on both these houses but I realize they have more peaks than my 1950's home.

I like the picture where you added the brick along the bottom and on the garage. Without it, the chimney stands alone.

catherinek708, ok I see what you're saying about the chimney and that it needs something to balance it and bring it together with the rest of the house, thank you. :)

Antikebausoffe e.U. this is a color blocking approach I hadn't even considered. Thank you for taking the time to make me a visual! I like your first picture the best with the dark grey best. I like how you took the color from the chimney and continued it along the base of the house and the vertical siding is cool. I still think I should break up the area under the gable with a little more blocking. What do you think? Perhaps a border line going across the top of the two big windows connecting the eaves?

I really like your picture #2 above. I don't think it's dated at all. If you wanted to accentuate the height of the gable you could run the boards vertically instead of horizontally.

The house is an open invitation for a craftsman style. I would face the chimney with stone put brackets on the overhangs, install a tiffany style front door, etc
