Hi there,

I have a vanity in my bedroom that I am updating. It's off to the side, with a pocket door leading to the main bathroom that is shared between all family members. I currently use this vanity for my morning and evening routine, face washing, and makeup application.

The vanity is off to the side of my bedroom, and is separated by 2 walls. The space is 46.5" so I am getting a custom vanity in espresso that will match the rest of the bedroom furniture.

I have been given 2 options from the cabinet maker. 33.5 or 36. I am 5"5. Not sure what to pick. I think I'd prefer 35" if possible, and my husband did say he could shim it to increase the height if we got the smaller one. Not sure what would look best for decor in this space tho and hoping for some feedback.

My furniture is quite high, with my nightstand tables at 30". (The current vanity is at 30" too. I am not a fan of washing my face here but I actually like looking in the mirror and seeing a bit below the waist when I am getting ready, but maybe this is because it is what I am used to)

I am also worried that makeup application maybe be an issue at the 36"? Bending forward to reach the mirror? I"m totally over analyzing this but it is such a big purchase and I know I will live with this decision for years so want to make the best choice.

I'll attach a photo. Please share any thoughts in terms of

1) counter height for the space (9ft ceilings)

2) mirrors or lightening that would compliment the space.

I see so many photos of beautiful spaces with mirrors and sconces on each side but I would want my mirrors to be as wide as possible as my "work area" will be on each side of the sink.

3) Light or dark counter tops?

I do not have photos of the new vanity, but it's espresso, maple, shaker style, and traditional with 3 drawers on each side and a cabinet in the middle.
