It appears that my kitten has dry FIP - blood work came back high for corona virus

I just did a quick search, and one site said FIP is not treatable. Is that right? Did you have to have kitty put down? If so, I'm very sorry.

Unfortunately, FIP is fatal, but it also can not be definitively diagnosed in a living animal. The vast majority of cats who test positive for corona virus do not have FIP (FIP is a specific mutation of the common corona virus). While a positive corona test result will open the door to the possibility of FIP, other symptoms and tests are typically evaluated before making a presumptive FIP diagnosis.

I am truly sorry if your kitten does, in fact, have FIP.

I have not put him down at this point. Vet says given his symptoms and blood work that this is the most likely diagnosis. Still, he is trying a round of clindamycin in the off chance it is toxoplasmosis or some other infection. But his neurological symptoms are not good, and he has a history of loss of appetite, unexplained fever etc as described in my original post. It's very sad - he is an incredibly sweet cat, which oddly enough, appears to be a characteristic of FIP kitties. Thanks for all your comments and concern.

We lost our kitten to FIP (pretty certain) 13 years ago this coming December. You have my utmost sympathy. No reliable tests for it or prevention, and no cure--such a horrible disease....

I've "had" FIP before, & the following is my heartfelt advice to anyone whose pet has it:

FIP is a horrible disease that causes horrible suffering & a horrible death.

When your kitten begins to fail, give him an easy way out.
