Help Narrow Down the Identity

I found this little Hosta while weeding under a spruce tree.

It could be one of the followings:

1. A hosta that was acquired a few years ago but has been declared 'Lost in the Garden' status in my database.

2. A chance seedling.

3. A diseased Hosta

Can you throw me some names as its possible identity so that I can check against my database on whether it is one that I bought somewhere? Thanks

Whirlwind? Maybe Revolution...ring a bell? Undulata?

At this point it is almost anyone's guess. This plant is very unstable and thus has an identity crisis. I've never seen 'Revolution' go misted like that, but that doesn't mean it cannot happen. Certainly 'Revolution' has a penchant for sporting, but mostly just to plain, solid green. I have several of those, quite a nice sport in it's own right, I call mine "Green Revolution" and have found it to be rather vigorous. My guess is what you have here is 'Ghost Spirit'.

It could be Midnight at the Oasis.

Josephine, my 'Whirlwind' and 'Undulata' are accounted for somewhere else in my garden. I don't have 'Revolution'.

Pieter, I don't have 'Ghost Spirit', but would add it to my hit list.

bragu, Not quite follow the subtle connotation here; not too familiar with American history on G. Washington. I do worship subtleness like a religion.

Vanessa, I don't have 'Midnight at the Oasis'. However, since this little plant will take a few years to stabilise, I will temporarily nickname it 'The Other Side of Midnight'(GC) for tracking in my database for now.

I recommend that you look up your hostas individually on the Hosta Library since you mention you have a database.

    Here's the link: http://www.hostalibrary.org/

Another suggestion would be to post your list here.

    not sick ...

    just unstable ...

bragu was saying its not revolution.. I THINK .. lol

looks like it was more white earlier.. and greening up ...

i think you are going to have to give it a year or two ... to get an ID ...

not sure revolution or that clan are very fertile... if so.. odds of seedling are low ... but i dont feel like looking that up. might be completely wrong on this ...

really small pot for what looks like a large plant... unless all the roots got mangled ??? .. i would get it in the ground soon ...

Vanessa, Thanks for the suggestion. I use that Hosta Library site for checking identification frequently. However, it would be impractical to cross check all the names in my list against such a big library. It is also not practical to post such a long list on such a forum thread. I would have to generate a small file as an attachment, but that would not be unfair to members here having to download and go through it.

Ken, Thanks for cluing me into the 'Not Revolution' hint. Wow, that's subtle! Also thanks for the other expert advice. Some of the Hosta nearby are 'White Feather', 'London Fog', 'Orange Marmalade', 'Guardian Angel'. I will get it in the ground as soon as this heat wave is over, but need to give it an ID for tracking.

Check out Savannah Supreme as well.

Guess I can't help you then, garcanad! Good luck getting an ID for your hosta :)

Vanessa, thanks for your help. I have to live with many mis-labeled plants anyway. I usually make some effort to update when I am not too busy or at least give them a temporary ID to track them in the garden. It will never end.
