Thanks so much for your insight. I had them over only to be told they can't fix it other than by disassembling my kitchen and building new casing (I wish they chose to do that before new quartz and backsplash etc were all installed) - after seeing quality of their work, I simply can't have them do that - I might end up with something much worse. It will most likely take a real pro (which turned out this contractor is definitely not) to fix it on site, like you suggest, Jan Moyer.

The cherry stained parts should have been lightly sanded, sealed with something like vinyl sealer, then primed, then painted. That process should fix the problem, even now. I would try to find a qualified and competent finisher (not painter) in your area and talk to them. For a perfect color match, the same products should be used, or redo the doors/drawers too.

Hopefully you haven't paid for it all yet. Also, didn't you notice this before tiling was done.

@Al Fortunato Furniture maker - thanks for this super useful info!! @Angel18432 I came back to the house after the casing was painted and the first thing I asked was - when is then next layer going to be sprayed on? The contractor said that it was a finished product and it will look great. He was so oddly proud of himself. I didn't have the new doors yet (they were in the shop getting painted) so I couldn't point out the color mismatch - but he kept reassuring it will be beautiful. Low and behold - it is not beautiful nor well done... Yup, I am furious and determined to have it corrected.

No wonder you didn't catch it before hand. Hopefully you haven't paid all the bill yet, so you have something to keep them on the case. Keep us posted - so maddening that you have a new kitchen, paid mega $$ and it's not right.
