Need Wood Floor Color Help!

We just bought a 25 year old villa on a golf couse in the Midwest. Everything is 25 years old - maybe even the lightbulbs! We're totally re-doing it, including moving a few walls. The medium / light colored maple kitchen cabinets are worth saving. They are Amish built and very well cared for. Our question is about the flooring. We want wood floors everywhere except the bedrooms. The area to have wood floors is a kitchen - familyroom combo, a dining room, livingroom with sliding glass doors to a 3 season room (the 3-season room will have a tile floor), a laundryroom and powder-room. The livingroom will have beige, semi-formal - funiture. The dining room has a large, 12 seat, dark wood 'harvest' table. We like an oak floor that is close to the color of the kitchen cabinets, but we don't want it to look like we are trying to match colors. Our accents are red and gold. Should we go with a lighter floor? Darker? Advice?
