I'm not sure if painting is necessary. I guess you could do a pastel type of grey?I would center the bed on the wall and focus on getting night stands or side tables, some art above bed and accesorizing. Not sure if I like this bedding with the gold toned bed though. I would consider changing the bedding to something else...gotta think about it for a little bit. Will post another commen when I come up with something.

I checked with the color wheel and it appears that Soosun is on the same pattern. Throwing tones of yellow or green would set a tone for more of a monochromatic look. You could also paint the walls green,as it goes well with gold:

...or you can use a complementary color, dark blue or purple to create an accent wall at the head of the bed. Like this:

I would definitely update the bedding to give a hotel feeling. You can go white, yellow, purple, etc. depending on what color you choose for the walls.

I would suggest getting new night stands that are taller and reach the height of the mattress.

A dresser or a tv stand under the tv would look great. I would also lower the tv and incorporate it in a collage like this:

What a beautiful bed! Please don't paint it!! As a matter of fact, I wouldn't paint at all, except for an accent wall behind the bed. I wouldn't change the bedding either. I would use the darker gray from the bedding as my accent color. Center the bed on the wall, add two nightstands that are as high as the mattress along with two lamps. (Your current bedside tables, although lovely, are not correct in scale.) Lamps should be tall enough to read by while sitting up in bed. French Provincial tables in an off-white would further the romantic look of the room. Add some floral prints above the bed, framed in gold. (Two substantial pictures, more horizontal than vertical.) A small slipper chair in a stripe or floral print, incorporating the colors of the bedding, would be useful. (It is always nice for guests to have a place to sit to take off their shoes.) A pretty mirror with a gold frame could be hung on the wall where the TV is. (I would remove the TV; it does nothing to enhance the look of the room.) Add a luxurious throw to the bed to further soften the room. I think you have very good taste; you just need to "flesh out" this room. Good luck!

Thank you, thank you, thank you all for the AMAZING ideas. I'm a total novice when it comes to decorating. I absolutely love the idea of painting one wall as an accent wall, definitely new night stands & lamps, horizontal pictures that are gold trimmed and I also like the idea of possibly using a white bedding, I do love the current bedding; however, my other half and I are open to other options. I finally have a place to start thanks to all of your suggestions and I will definitely post the final picture. Thank you again for taking time out to offer your wonderful ideas. I just painted my guest room in my new (old) home. I used SW Sea Salt and love it so much that I will do my master the same. I t is a very soothing calm color for a bedroom and would make the brass on your bed pop. There seems to be a lot of this kind of color around and there is a lot of bedding out there now that is using this kind of color. Im personally not a fan of brown bedding. If you can afford it I would replace it. There are some nice reasonable sets at Homegoods.

Jillll, can you please post a pic of the color you're speaking of? I'd love to see it. My dilemma is this...my other half bought this bed on his first tour overseas and it's a keeper for him :-) that's why I'm having to try and work around the bed in this guest room. I do have a pretty open budget for redecorating this guest room and bath, I just have to figure out something around this brass bed with marble tops. Helppppp. Lol
You all have amazing ideas and I think the bed is slightly throwing me off as well but I know there's a way to make this room work with the bed :-) most of the furniture in our home is simply and easy to work with (see below), but this room and bed frame is hard for me to work with. (FYI-my other half decorated the entire home, he's a much better decorator than I, I'm only responsible for this one room and bath) Geesh!

Since the case pieces throughout you home are dark woods, perhaps you could find antique walnut or oak nightstands with marble tops. Craigslist, ebay, local auctions and estate sales are good sources. If you go that route, a quilt in a country design (crazy quilt, log cabin, or wedding ring patterns, for example) would make a lovely bed covering. You could use Tiffany-style lamps on the nightstands for a country Victorian look. You could pull a color from the quilt for your accent wall. You could also get a Victorian chair and have it reupholstered in a fabric complementary to your quilt. There are so many ways you can go with this room!

You have some great pieces of furniture. Your staircase is gorgeous and I love the African art and statuettes. The only thing, your house feels somewhat dark. There is a lot of brown on brown and more brown.I would switch out a few things.

I would lighten the walls in the dinning room and make a grouping of the African masks and the framed art within the wall nook. Even if you only paint the nook, I would paint it a way lighter shade of the existing brown color and put the masks in a grouping there. I would love to see a small African or other ethnic rug with lot's of color and/or pattern under the coffee table in your living room.

Also, the statuettes on the living room coffee table are somewhat high and give off a feeling of a furniture store. Try to play around with the placement. Try varying heights, different textures and surprising elements. I would even try one of the picture frames or the horns on the table. Your choice of paint in the bedroom is great. I would switch the bedding to something more updated and more simple, so that the eye appreciates the beauty of your bed frame. Even bedding in a brown color like this would take your bedroom a notch:

That is a great bed, and after hearing the story of how it was purchased overseas and brought home makes it more special, and also fits in with the global inspired decor in the rest of the home. That's the style I would bring into this guest bedroom as well. Your current bedding doesn't do anything for the bed IMO. I think I would start some shopping in places import stores to find a tapestry or kantha quilt and pillows you love. Also find unique tables for nightstands, they don't have to match, and also some artwork. Some inspiration photos:

Azotova87 & MarleneM-one word for you both...FANTASTIC! I didn't think about an African type rug in the front room, that would compliment it perfect. I also love the photo of the night stands with the marble handles, great touch. Definitely new bedding is going to be needed. I have tons of information and ideas I can work with as I visit a few great stores here in Vegas (Kirklands, Home Goods, Ross, TJ Maxx, Kohls, Pier 1 Imports, local vintage stores and yard sales)...I'm super excited! Thank you to EVERYONE who's suggestions were truly heard and will be implemented in my findings.
