Boring breakfast room

We recently brought down this table from our playroom to our breakfast area. It is painted light grey but I'm wondering about chair and rug ideas...these chairs aren't my favorite but hubby doesn't mind them. Round/rectangle rug? Patterned? I've never been a curtains person (rest of house is 3.5 plantation shutters) but this room needs something!! The table almost seems too small to me, but not wanting to totally overhaul a space we rarely use (we all sit at our island) I am open to any/all input and won't be offended! Thanks in advance :)

Why have the breakfast table at all, if you sit at the island? It just seems stiff to me. Would it be at all crazy to do something like a lounge coffee shop area? where you can lounge on a settee/ sofa and read your paper, kids could have some toys, etc.

maybe two loveseats facing each other or in an L shape, or a loveseat and two comfy chairsand a coffee table or two bistro tables, and a low shelf/ bin for games, etc.

Funny you should say this- it was a sitting area with a love seat and chair, but we just moved that furniture down to my husband's man cave. I think you are right about converting it to a sitting room (again!!) but it isn't a large space - 10 by 12.5 with a door along one wall. How would you orient the love seats? Comfort is king in our house with two dogs and two kids! Thanks so much for your input!!

well for sure it needs nice drapery as your windows look boring the way they are. If you wanna keep the roller shades you have right now try adding a curtains in the sides. something similar to this

I think a wicker love seat with cushions and small drum rattan for setting drinks could work nicely here with a large fern to the side creating a sunroom space with still room for movement doggies and playing with the kiddos.

Add upholstered arm chairs, instead of the ones you have may create a cozy feeling.

Is it ok to just add drapery to that far wall? Not really enough space to add to all windows! Now to pick some out that aren't boring- I play it safe too much :(

I would make it more of a hearth room or sunroom. The view is beautiful and it would be a nice room to sit in. I would recommend window treatments. They will add color and warmth. Enjoy!

In a heartbeat, I would add an l-shaped banquette and add lots of pillows and you may find you may drift away from being at the island, as this space would be so cozy, pretty and more intimate and your table and chairs would work great.

That is beautiful @Maureen and my husband will be happy I'm not going to be doing a total redo...now off to find a perfect baguette to scale!
