It looks fine.

You can always put down a couple of throw rugs with some color in them to add more color to the room if needed when you're done.

Each photo looked a bit different. I agree that it's ok.

As you said, a lighter neutral top will likely lessen dramatic contrasts/ making everything a bit softer/ not that that covers mistakes, but it does not draw the eye like black would....

Sage is your choice? I hope a silvery very blue-green sage... idk, but thinking a very green sage will draw out even more tones from the 2 woods...

From here I like the paint on door: robin's egg blue sort of.. not the brighter version in other photo... that color in kitchen?

I take that means 'no'... :)

The cabinets look like they are maple...which means they will turn a stronger "yellow" over time. This yellowing will add more definition as well.

I'm a fan of pale wood cabs + pale wood flooring. The gray counter top will add LESS definition that the black counters (the temporary ones show you the GREATEST contrast available...gray will reduce the contrast).

Sage works well with the cinnamon in the red oak. Blues do well with the yellow maple. Blue and red oak can have issues if you get it wrong.

I'm not a fan of "green paint" but even I have to admit that red oak and sage go well together. I would pull a colour from the gray counter top (undertones) to inspire the wall colour. If you don't pull this together you will have 4 different "colours" in this kitchen:

1) Yellow maple

2) cinammon brown red oak

3) gray counter top

4) "X" colour on the walls

If you pull something from the counter top you will get some sort of cohesion.
