There are so many variables unknown, it isn't feasible to give an opinion one way or another, do you like the feel of wood but just don't want it to get banged up, or do you like the idea of tile, but are more inclined to the wood look?. What are your budget constraints? If you want the look of wood that is going to hold up, you may also want to consider laminates. Many other choices also available from bamboo to cork to concrete to . . . . Elaborate on your situation, and you should receive some well informed feedback from the pros here on Houzz .

What will hold up with baby boys? I want a hard wood look. What will hold up best. I don't want hard wood to get scratched up. And I'm afraid of tile chipping. I'm going to go with the rustic wide board hard wood or the tile that looks the same way. Not interested in laminates.

Have you considered an engineered wood floor as opposed to hardwood or laminate? I don't think baby boys will be too hard on hardwood flooring. I'd be more worried about baby boys who grow up to be big boys wielding hockey sticks and riding skateboards:)

Hardwood can hold up to toddlers although mine once tried to slip n slide using peanut butter; it didn't work very well. It is also a more forgiving surface to stand on for a long time, and if a jar of jam falls out of the fridge door it probably won't break unlike some harder less forgiving surfaces.

Go with a nail down floor. Wood is warmer in winter too. Agree with the higher janka rating

Hardwood floors do take a beating. It's more diff to maintain them. Tile floors are great especially a nice porcelain. But they can get cold in the winter. If you have the money use heated floors. If its in the kitchen chances are you will use them for sure!!! I don't use the heated floors that we have in the master bath!!
