A friend of mine saw this house on tour in Saint Paul. How did you build the underlayment for the ceiling. It is a beautiful ceiling.

    Hi Mike, Thank you for the comment! Here is the process of how we went about creating the ceiling.

    First- The interior designer created a sketch/rendering of the idea.
    Second – We created a scaled drawing of it in 2D
    Third – The entire full size idea was laid out on sheets of plywood detailing where the ridge lines of the ceiling would be.
    Fourth – It was built similar to how they used to build the hull of a ship, 2x12 lumber was used as the ridges and wood lath was stapled to the solid wood framing to create curves and concaves. The entire ceiling was built upside down and then turned over and moved into place.
    Lastly – Two layers of ¼” thick gypsum board was installed over the framing. Every surface was then skim coated with joint compound so that we had a smooth finish.
