What earthquake??? Didn't feel it here in OKC

There have been 4 near Stillwater in last 12 hours, one was 3.5 early this morning.

I'm going to join the crowd of concerned. The 3.5 was close to her. And she hasn't been on FB in over 13 hours (we're FB pals too!). Not really typical for her but then again - they're in the middle of moving/shifting/re-aligning life. Lets just pray she's busy and they're fine.

So, how about today? 4.1 yesterday. I guess some people hrre felt it.

I saw an article yesterday on one of the news websites that said several water disposal wells near Cushing are being closed down. I don't know if that has been in the works for a while, or if it is more directly related to this week's swarm of earthquakes near Cushing, but I hope it makes a difference. Y'all know that when they shut down one water injection well here, our little swarm of earthquakes stopped immediately and we haven't had one since as far as I know.

I hope Bon's family and property are alright.

We're here, I'm nerve racked. So much so I'm eye-balling this lawyer on my facebook feed who supports citizens living with this crap. And planning. More reports are being unleashed that claim a big one is very near. When the epi is close, every tremor is felt, not just the reported ones. We're feeling 3-12 quakes a day.

So, I'm glad to hear about cessation. I hope it's true. I know they've done it before when the battery tanks were likely to have been compromised. At least I have that much on my side. cannot say this for others elsewhere. They know. We know. The good part is, they might know enough to be pushing the envelope and cessation happens before any very big quake.

But I don't think mankind has that much power in the long run. I know they know enough to ask and test whether or not they'll do something really stupid like set off the New Madrid Fault.

Last spring we had just bought and refurbished our truck. We spun off and enjoyed our new freedom by driving randomly through the rural areas in Perkins when we stumbled across a new rig. We squeezed tightly on the unpaved roads while semi's were drove to and from. That rig is the exact coordinates for the epicenter of the recent quakes in this area. About a mile away.

I'm at a point now where I'm speaking under my breath, 'Just get it over with, already."

Until that big one hits, nobody's going to seriously address the issue. It might be tomorrow, next week, next year or even 5 years from now. Locals have cognitive dissonance. Even I forget about it when the quakes ease. I don't want to think about it either. I know they have family, friends and an entire state that relies on oil. Truly, I know. But cowardice destroys, maims and kills.

We're closing on the house and lots this week. We're in the process of gaining insurance, but an earthquake rider is not on it. We'll see. I'm not sure we can afford the added insurance.

Oklahoma Corporation Commission has intervened. Some sites in this area are being plugged up and the volume of others will be reduced. Yay!

It worked for us here. I hope it works for y'all up there. We only had one well closed, but it was the one that mattered.

4.0 6km W Cushing Knocked the power out all over town, but we're okay.

Bon, It is just a slow, steady drumbeat of constant quakes, isn't it? If the disposal wells are having an impact, then closing some of them ought to help. I think it depends, though, on each individual well and its location relative to pre-existing fault lines. In our county, it was easy because the quakes started almost immediately after the opening of a big, brand-new water disposal well, and they stopped as soon as the owner shut down the well voluntarily. As far as I know, at that time, that well was the only one in our county. Since then, a couple of new water disposal wells have been drilled in a very different part of the county far from that original one, and the quakes have not resumed here. Everyone is keeping their fingers crossed.

I hope the big one never hits because if it does, I'm worried it will be close to where you live. The little ones are bad enough, and I just cannot imagine the damage a big one would do.

That one triggered another 45 minutes later at a nearby location and the power went out again. I think it was a 3.5. It was rolling all night long. I took today off. I'm too tired.

I'm not certain, but i think the epi 4.0 (some are calling it a 5 with a shallow depth) is the one OCC wants to put a cap on. I can certainly see why.

I recently contacted OCC to thank them. Just trying to remain grateful and hopeful under it all. He responded:

There
is no doubt that the earthquake issue is the most important facing all
of us. My home has suffered damage as well, and I certainly understand
your feelings about what’s happening.

It
is important to the you know that seismologists have told us that
anything we do toward reducing the earthquakes will not work overnight,
that it will take time to have an effect. However, that does NOT mean
we’re just going to sit back and see what happens. Cushing is still very
much a work in progress. We have now added another well to the “reduce
volume” list and more actions are certainly possible, depending on the
data.
