That is a lot of pillows there! Personally, I would keep the two on the ends and add one with some of the art's colors. Put the shaggy one on the window seat. You can bring it down when you want to pet it!

I like the two end ones also. Why not some purple to pick up the chair color.

I also like the end pillows best, but all are great. As for color, I like the neutrals on the sofa to maintain a sleek look while allowing the eye to be drawn to the color of the art, chairs, lamp. Random spots of color will cause the eye to rove and de-accentuate the art. You have a beautiful space.

I think you have a great eye for color and balance. I wouldn't change a thing. The couch looks comfy and inviting. My eye is drawn to the few seemingly random pops of color you have. Adding more color will distract from the art.

Try different sizes or shapes. The only thing I noticed that is out of place is the lamp shade. Try black, grey, or white. Otherwise, nice room.

Love your room as it is. Your area rug is beautiful, yet the subtle colors in it work so nicely with the other elements in the room including the sofa, coffee table, and art.

Your sofa looks like the kind that has the extra deep seats. If you don't have lots of pillows to support your back you won't sit comfortably.

Actually, the two end pillows are my least favorite. The pattern is too similar to the one in the rug.

Could you show what's on the other sides of the room?

I wasn't quite ready yet to show the room but took these quick shots. I hope people don't mind me top posting the room pics for advice in the near future... they will probably get lost in this thread. For instance I want another chair on the other side of the fireplace instead of the stand, I need either a chandelier over the purple chairs or a sleek modern fan... ditch the desk for different sofa table... etc. Opinions are always encouraged and very much appreciated! ;)

That is a flat screen TV on the wall appearing to perch on a picture rail.

The color of the lights behind the fireplace alcoves can be changed with my iphone. Check out Hue light bulbs... they are amazing!

The chair swivels... I don't watch much TV. If I do watch the news while at the desk or in the kitchen the TV is on a long arm and turns 90 degrees if I wanted it to. Scary to see it sticking out 5 feet that way but no problems so far.

The dining room is off the kitchen as you can see in the pics. This area is definitely not at all ready for pics but you asked! This dining area use to be a den and there was a double sided book case between the kitchen and den (now dining room). The center section of the bookcase was a hidden door on wheels. In the first pic you can still see the ceiling lights that use to illuminate the bookshelf. I don't use a dining room often enough to have left it where it was... where the purple chairs are now.

The furniture in there is rag tag stuff from my last house... not sure what I can save. I need a hanging lamp that won't interfere with the light coming in the door for one thing. I'm considering having a door made that looks more like a window with an actually opening window in it. Bookshelf is coming out of there obviously. The silver sideboard is giant so I think proper scale might make this area look larger.

After looking at the pictures you posted, have you tried the purple chairs in front of the fireplace? I think they would add punch to the area. Place the gray chair where the other chairs were with the small table. You can add purple accents on the round table. Play up the colors.

I've tried the chairs in front of the fireplace and they are dwarfed. With the ceiling being so high the pictures kind of play a trick with scale. The purple chairs are just over a foot taller than the grey bench in front of the fireplace so, very low. The grey chair holds it own because its 42" tall.

I found a bean bag chair that looks like its made from crinkled tin foil and I'm actually thinking about getting it. It might look cool on the other side of the fireplace and easily moved to watch TV from a better vantage point. This is the best picture I can find of it. Its from an italian company. Sure hope that big tag can be easily removed!

Have fun with this, any color you want. Just make sure there's a place to sit, don't forget people want to sit on the sofa and the pillows take away seat depth.

Thanks! Without throw pillows the seat depth is 23 inches. Many of my guests use them because of that depth.

The only comment I have is the 2 lamps in the dining room, I thought were a little too big, but maybe they are not in real life. Sometimes pictures can be deceiving. Perhaps a different shade might do it. Again, beautiful home.

Angel18432 you are right. The lamps are huge... that whole side of the room is oversized and I think the room would look bigger if everything were smaller. This is furniture from another house (Madera Home cabinet!). The cabinet itself is over 8 feet long and the very top of the lamp shades as they lamp sit on the cabinet are 6'4" off the ground! The body of the vintage lamp is mica as is the shade. Maybe I can mirror this wall or do a crazy wall paper just on the one wall and try to make the oversized furniture intentional??

OR as an homage to the bamboo hedge out front.

It looks like a lovely lamp also. Maybe you could change the harp and get a smaller shade, but keep the items removed in case you want to change it back someday.

I found these charcoal wool Vera Wang pillows (HomeGoods) and thought they might work on my chairs. Whats the protocol with matching chairs... match the pillows??

I like them and think matching is good but would prefer lumbart pillows on the chairs. These include an inspirational blue for that wall behind the chairs and in the niches flanking the FP.

I like the black pillows. Matching is fine, especially since there are only two.

I love your area rug, the grey couch and the purple chairs and decoenthusiaste's lumbar cushions. Try grouping them! The stainless steel (?) coffee table is nice too. The sofa at the bottom of the chairs is disturbing. Is there somewhere else you could put it? Remove all the clutter, ornaments and lamps and then come back in very slowly and thoughtfully with decor accents, lamps and artwork.
