They even cover the floor with ramboard or felt carpet padding too.

@benjesbride he said to me the other day your husband comes in here and will ask me to do something that you specifically said not to do so I smile and nod and just do it how you want it done.

I can't decide which I love more, your contractor or your floor...which I hope will also be covered so no paint or ladder-scratches.

Floors where definitely covered. I love this contractor also the plumber not so much I happened to be in the house earlier and said to the plumber something about which way I wanted to tub to be installed to which he replied your putting a tub in here I was like no the tub sitting in the. Master bedroom is going to be where we sleep yes it's going in there are u not looking at the plans the contractor gave you which show a tub it's not there as decoration.

We did a whole house reno and moved out of the house for the duration. The fellow who was doing the tiling was a real character (but man was he a tile artist) he'd sing and chat up a storm to himself and I could hear him when I got out of the car. Whenever I arrived at the house the project manager would shout - "Mark, client in the house!" and then there was silence.

The job was 6 months through spring and summer and the first week they would leave their food garbage in the giant bins. We have bears in our neighbourhood and so I explained to the GC that their food garbage would have to go home with them at night . The next day I arrived to a big sign at the front of our yard that said "This is a bear-free zone/Take home your litter". I should have taken a picture.

I'll come out of lurkdom to respond to this. We were renovating my father's house for sale. When I removed the 50 year old carpet (yes, really!), I had to remove a short piece of base molding near a door. I left it leaning in its spot, so it wouldn't be discarded.

The part that made me laugh out loud: the painters painted it just as it stood, up against the wall where it belonged, but with the lower edge out maybe 1". And then they CAULKED it there. I guffawed at the very idea. When I pointed it out to the paint company project manager, he said he thought it was a little odd, but figured it must have been that way for a reason.

I don't think it is funny either. I think it is what he should have done to protect your new cabinets and countertops. Good for him.

Love your floor & what are the countertops hiding below that plastic?

Our kitchen project went a few weeks behind schedule, resulting in the countertop install happening while DH and I were on vacation. Our cabinet maker (Dan) offered to be at the house when the counters went in. I called late that morning to see how things were going. Dan said "They're doing a great job. You did order the pink counters, right?"

We had worked together long enough for me to know that if he was joking around, things were fine. It was went he got serious that I worried!

He did right by you! Keep with this guy!

Love when someone does a proper job of something - even when they know the homeowner would settle for less.

Ann, I love the story about your relationship with your cabinet maker. I had wanted to work with a different contractor than the one that was eventually assigned to us by the insurance company. I now realize that it was a blessing in disguise. The guy we ended up with is doing an amazing job, but the best part is that I am comfortable enough with him to joke or yell when I feel it necessary and he does the same.

And I hear ya about the serious part.

When my contractor gets frustrated with me arguing about something that he knows I'm wrong about, he stamps his foot like a little boy. Since I teach 6 year olds, I know this is the sign that he's run out of real arguments and just knows its the way it has to be. I generally give in at that point because he knows waaaaaay more about these things than I do.

Thanks everyone I think the reason I find it so funny is that he was seriously just supposed to finish patching a hole in the middle of the ceiling nowhere near the cabinets so I figured that he would hang the plastic from the ceiling but not taped all around.

@romy718 the countertops are called New Superwhite they are a quartzite/marble I'm treating it as marble as it doesn't stain and it kinda scratched glass but it def etched.

I'm a little hesitant to post finished kitchen pics when it's done as I know my layout is not totally recommended here but it was what worked for us.

Post your finished pics when you have them! We all do what works for us, for the house, for the budget.

I cannot imagine under what circumstances I would perform 3.5 hours of work that was not my fault and for which I was not compensated.

Actually that sort of coverage is standard and the floors should be covered too.

Joseph, he's the GC and the painters schedule are on him. It's part of his job to handle issues from delayed scheduling by his subs.

I would love that. My contractor was supposed to cover the cabs to do the plaster work....he did not...we are still eating the dust. :(
