How do I Choose a Replacement for this Light Fixture?

This light is bright (each bulb 60 watts) but outdated looking. Do I need to find a new 6-bulb flush mount to replace it or can a qualified electrician replace it with any kind of fixture we want (such as a semi flush mount or pendant)? It's for over our kitchen table (very casual; modern/ transitional style). We want something just as bright. Thanks.

Here are some options (2 blingy, 2 less-so) curated especially for you! Hope they inspire you! Ooops! Got my answers confused...these fixtures I intended for 'bathroom'...gimme a sec...will be back with some kitchen ideas!
