Perhaps a wild thyme?

One of the creeping thymes imo too.

I was under the impression that it's native to Europe and Asia. I'm in NY and its not something I planted. We've owned this property for 30+ years.

Looks like some kind of oregano to me, perhaps oreganum vulgare. Do you have a photo that is not from above?

Looks more like thyme to me, oregano usually has larger leaves.

I checked the BONAP maps. The only oregano escapee in the NY area is Oreganum vulgare. The most likely thyme for that area is Thymus pulegioides.

T pulegioides looks like a possible candidate.

Yes - like I said before, that is not Oreganum vulgare. Did you look at images of T pulegioides?

Yes. I think it looks the same, the leaves especially.
