It depends on the grade of finish the stainless steel mosaic they were selling has on it, if it is un-graded then I would advise against using it. Our stainless steel has a finish grade of 304 which would be fine for a backsplash in a kitchen and a vanity in a bathroom.

It is the corrosive nature of the product that retailers are worried about. Many do not actually have a finish grade making them a potential liability.

The two main grades of stainless steel finish are 304 and 316. The 316 is more resistant and is suitable for marine applications as the issue with that is saltwater, which is extremely corrosive.

In conclusion, I would probably not put stainless steel in a shower. But backsplashes are fine as long as you have a 304 finish. So you could go back to the retailer and clarify the grade of finish and then make the choice for yourself and of course we have the product for sale on Houzz.com.
