I do see what you mean about being too much furniture in the living room but at the end of every Sunday of the month we get together with six people and it's just the right amount of seating ! Love the idea of the chandelier being read I'm kind of a do it myself or what would you think about painting the existing one red ? The rug is much the size you indicated so what would be the rule of phone 5 inches under each piece of furniture with that be about the right dimensions ? And last but not least the little coffee table is where my whole read scheme started ! Do you think I could use it as an end table instead of one of my other ones ! So I totally understand the seating necessities. The room does feel furniture heavy and with all the items your red seems dotted around the room not blended. For the chandelier is it crystal or is it white with crystal accents it is hard to tell from the picture. If it is white metal then yes you could spray it as a DIY add the crystal dangles back and maybe even some small red shades? With the rug here is a quick pic for sizing:)

The red candles are overkill. Since you are asking for opinions on your photos, I think with a much less busy rug and taking out all the red candles your room will look less crowded. The coffee table is way too small.

I would also suggest removing at least some of the red candles or put different shades of red with some. A round table for dining will be nice. I would not make any part of it red though. You could add a red runner if need be to carry the color into the dining area.

I would try the red pillow in the black chair. I would also remove all the red candles and only use them at the holidays. They seem to trying too hard to add red.

You have pretty rooms. If you do want to try fewer candles in the living room, your dining table might love them grouped on a tray or runner (especially if you have mixed reds).

Intermix's idea of less patterned rug seems good / less pattern and no red on mantel would reduce the effort on the eyes to see it all. I think photos often come out different than in person, and at night I think those candles add a lot! :) Great idea to group them, maybe in 2 spots only?

Nothing wrong that you chose different chair tones necessarily, but that adds busy too... glad the black chair is at side, and not detracting from a unified fireplace wall [with brown] imo.

Your question is about red, but I'm on contrasts again, unless someone said it already..? Black and lighter neutrals add drama with the high contrast between. Then red pillows/candles are saturated and it almost starts looking modern, probably more than you want.. I like your rug which has some soft earth-tone rusty-red.

The black doesn't do it for me... I don't mean on black but on another / this sunset coral [from rug?] / or more of your patterned pillow with tan in it? Still could have bright red on unit... dining...

I love red., however, you have too much furniture for size of room. You have 6 people in the room, 4 times a month and you are decorating around those days? Bring in a couple of dining chairs and move them back out after the meeting. In addition to too much furniture you have too many items (candles, nick-knacks and vases) Take everything out of the room except the 2 brown chairs and the sofa. Start from scratch. Yes, all the red candles :>) You could have 1 item on each side of TV on mantle and that's all. The rug is not a good design for the room and you can get one for $500.

I think it's great that you are pulling colours from your area rug. It's a great starting point. Red always seems so fresh and exciting ;) is there another colour you could pull from the rug? A dark grey? Nice work on the diy work, so satisfying to transform something.

Here is a mock floor plan. I used room of 14'x14' just a guess. Your sofa, 2 chairs and ottomans, sofa table, 2 floor lamps by FP and tables and one lamp by sofa. This what room should look like and you have room to bring in 2 dining chairs for extra seating. I used a 6x9' rug and it fits nicely. All front legs of furniture on rug. If the room is longer than 15' will probably have to go to 8x10 rug.

No you don't, please proceed. You could also consider adding red leather dining chairs as an option.

With a 6x9 rugs you choices open up for a rug and cost is less.
