I would exchange it so the chaise is on the left. Add a sofa table with two lamps behind the longest part of the sectional. A round cocktail table or ottoman will be required. Another option is to have two sofas at angles coming off wall opposite the television with a round table and lamp in between, you can also add two swivel lounge chairs for extra seating. You would need a cocktail table or pair of little tables/ottomans in front of each angled sofa in this scenario. The simplest solution is exchange the sectional for one with chaise on other side so room is not blocked off.

Exchange the sofa for something more flexible and attractive than the sectional.

Thank you all for your comments - would it work if we added another chaise on the left instead of the sofa so the sofa would have a chaise on either side of it? Gray & Walter - I also like your idea of the sofas coming off at angles don't understand the layout you mention?

You could get a sofa table or similar sized small dresser to put behind the right side of the sofa to break up the visual. That way you don't lose seating and gain some storage and a place for guests to set drinks, also adds opportunity to accessorize.

In general, I'm confused by the popularity of sectionals. Why not 2 sofas and a free standing chaise? Or a sofa, 2 chairs, and a chaise? I understand there are less decisions to be made with the sectional, but then there's also a lot less flexibility. Plus they close off the room, what do you do for parties? If it helps, you've chosen one of the more attractive sectionals for sure.

a great sofa...i love a sectional in a space that can handle it. it's a great family friendly piece for everyone to sit comfortably! i'd pull the sofa back, so that the front feet are on the sofa...this will give a bigger footprint to the rug, making the seating area feel larger and more open. place a long low cabinet, bureau, console table, writing desk, etc behind the sofa's back that face's the entrance, and on it, place a great table lamp and a few well placed, not too small accessories....this will soften the look of the back of the sofa. on the opposite side, slide the floor lamp so it's slightly behind the sofas edge, and add an end table.

agree with the poster above about a table behind the sofa on the side towards the camera. I am also not a fan of that thick brown rug. I think something bone white and thinner would be better. Also an issue IMHO is that the TV wall is dark. Add some sconces or a cove light on that wall. I like the cove fixtures from green oxen. your wallpaper won't help with the room lit that way.
