I love it but I think the issue is its bright white and doesn't tie in with the rest or what going on in the other rooms. It's also competing with the ceiling. So I would paint the ceiling a lighter version of you wall color. Maybe try you accessories in a different position. Also add some white or almost white pillows on sofa. Hope this helps!

yes I might be inclined to tell you to distress it a bit more, maybe add some darker value to the paint.

the console table for the tv is too small. needs to be longer. then loose one of the chairs.

making a collage wall of sorts, or at least two large pieces of art rather than the stars.

I LOVE the ship lap. The only thing that looks disproportionate is the length of the tv table. It really needs a longer one which would leave you with one chair and reconfiguring the items on the wall. You would have room on the console to put a couple of items too. I would let the ship lap speak for itself. Don't clutter it too much. Send a photo of your changes. Again LOVE the ship lap. Was it hard to install?

I agree that it doesn't make sense to cover your ship lap since that's the look you're going for. However, the beach-y vibe of ship lap is fighting with your heavy upholstery. Would you consider slipcovering your chairs to lighten them up? Perhaps a heavy cotton or denim? This would make it more casual/beach-y without being too summery (if that makes any sense...)

So I tried some of the other suggestions and still wasn't feeling it. I purchased these pieces yesterday and hung just a few minutes ago. I also found the table below and wondered how it would look as a tv stand with baskets?

The iron pieces are too French Country for the look you are going for. I like the mirror, but not over the TV because it fights for attention. I think you will need a solid TV Console at least 60" wide to anchor your TV. The ship Lap wall is amazing. I agree with the comments that less is more.

I think a wall mounted entertainment cabinet using folding shutter doors in a natural or light wood tone would bring this all together and not compete with the new wall. This could hide the tv and electronics when not in use. I like the idea of using the table you found under the tv with baskets & a few accents. I would suggest a new finish a distressed white or wood tone color. Also a larger area rug (with some color) where all the furniture is resting on it will ground the room. Then pull the color from the rug with pillows and your accents. I suggest moving the mirror over the fire place & I agree with bunnyllg the iron pieces are throwing off the look.

you must be so confused with all the comments. I agree with the long console but keep it simple (the one you are thinking about is too ornate). get rid of the lounge chair keep the other and the lamp don't center the console put it center to left (under the stars )to leave room on one side for the chair BUT leave the TV where it is (centered on the wall, not on the console )and put just a couple things on it. Then leave everything just the way you had it originally on the wall. Seriously just get a longer console that is really all you need. Try it and take a pic I would love to see it. Maybe a console like the one you have just longer, it w/b your only investment and yield great results, says me?

That's always the problem in real life...the TV. The fireplace battles as the focal point too. I might try to mount the TV above the stone fireplace then shift the room to mimic Joanna's look above. That Texan knows ship lap!

What about a long, low white distressed bookcase--not too deep--with TV on top and books on the bottom that runs the entire wall? Then then wall starts to look like a reading area and takes some of the focus off the TV.

Proper scale & proportion are you best friends when working with this wall. Ship Lap works well with any distressed or vintage material but you need the proper scale and proportion. You may be taking your cues from the TV. Might I suggest you remove the TV, place decorative elements on the wall then replace the TV without fear of what may be hidden. The scale of the TV is to small for that wall regardless but it seems you're trying to decorate around it.

Think about those beautiful book cases you see loaded with books and layered with photographs, original art, decorative art pieces. Layer the look of what you place on the wall. The TV isn't ornamental it's utilatarian. My best suggestion would be to create a pleasing well porpotioned layerd look on the wall then put the TV where you get the best viewing angle if it is indeed on this same wall.

You've got a good eye because you notice something is off. You'll know when it's right once you fix the scale and porportion matter. Have I mentioned Scale, Porportion and layering?

• Love the ship lap too. I think you need to add it to the fireplace wall as well. As is, you have created a competing focal point to the natural focal point of the room which is your fireplace. You can still have the tv on this wall, but I think it needs to be centered on the wall, and on a much larger console. Probably a larger tv too, and then symmetrical, but limited art on this wall because your fireplace is still your focal wall.

I don't see anything wrong with the scale of TV/console. I, for one, am sick of TV over fireplaces. Our components are a fact of life. Try hanging 3 stars across the top just over the TV. Lose the round mirror. Or hang that on your fireplace. The layout doesn't look conducive to watching the TV. But not knowing the rest of the room not sure what else to offer. I love ship lap did my ceiling and wall too!

components are a fact of life absolutely, but a honking stone fire place was the builders idea. Your picture above mimics a fireplace surround , only the mantle is above the TV/firebox. Same concept. A small room with a sectional sofa, a chair and ottoman and a recliner with a necessary doorway can only handle so much. You have some beautiful things Lisa, maybe it's not the ship lap. May loose the recliner, float the sectional angled around the stone fire place and mount that TV. You could get a mount that angles and moves because I know you want to watch it from the kitchen. If you own the house...and don't use that fireplace much--Dry wall it in and ship lap it like the picture above! There is a great DVD which emulates a fire place it even crackles and burns down the wood. $5 at Walgreen's. Your molding is beautiful and so is the granite. Pop it with some colorful throw pillows and sofa throws. A nice big square ottoman as a coffee table (size matters)/ foot stool. Add a tray to that with a pretty book a nice scented candle. As a test just set the TV stand on the hearth. Live with it awhile. I always "test" things in my house. good luck chickie!

It looks fantastic as is. It's just the TV that is really ugly and out of place. I would hide it in a tall white armoire against the beautiful board wall.

Your first idea was right. The scale, balance, and style was fine. You have to remember that suggestions here can be all over the board. I do think that you could use a longer TV console and lose one chair; but it isn't necessary. Listen to other people's ideas but trust yourself!

Have you considered a new larger rug? The one shown seems undersized for your room size.

Try switching the chairs opposite of where they are, the lower one on the left and the taller on the right. The rest looks great.

May I ask why you painted the ship lap? I think its beauty is the natural distressed finish.

The biggest problem is that you have two competing focal points the fireplace and the shiplap wall. If you put shiplap on the remaining walls (around the fireplace) then it would not be a focal point, but a back drop. Doing a collage around the TV to make it look bigger may help with your proportions. Good Luck

love the original decor..........but a taller tv cabinet would fill the vertical hole......painted colored wood like the blue shelf unit you found maybe this?....

Here's the latest. My husband built the floating shelves and I'm in process of replacing the TV stand with one that's longer and taller. The recliner to the left will be moved to another room soon. I'll be switching out my pillows covers to grey, white and maybe another hint of another color. A new bigger rug will be next to purchase and maybe a larger TV. Thanks for everyone's advice!

Ceiling fan is less than 2 years old. My husband would kill me if I removed it.

As everyone has said... LOVE the shiplap! I think what you've got going in the latest pics is good. I personally would pull the chair on the left back toward the corner by the floor lamp. Make it a reading spot. Maybe a basket of magazines on the floor on the right side of the chair. It's still close enough to be a part of conversation when desired. (If you're going to move it to another room, then take the chair on the right & put it on the left as I mentioned above.) A longer, taller TV "stand" will definitely help. The other thing to consider, and not sure what it would do with a bigger TV stand, but I would take the 2 stars and stagger them rather than having them symmetrical as they are. With the 2 stars symmetrical and the 3 shelves symmetrical, (I hate to say it) but it looks too symmetrical. LOL

LOVELY!!! You've done a magnificent job & having to question everyone's advice is hectic for sure. This piece is great! I do agree with previous comment about the wall looking too symmetrical though. If you get this piece, don't center on wall.... center tv... then maybe play with the stars either side by side or staggered as mentioned over left side of console. It's coming together wonderfully... hubby did a great job on shelves. It will all look finished with the new console. Blessings.
