From a nice looking viewpoint, I would get rid of the shades and use grommet top panels. If they are hung high enough it will help your windows to not look squatty.

The density of the material provide privacy from outside however you can see out from inside the house. Clean looking, no bulk etc. They come in different colors. They were measured, and ordered from a manufacturer through a local vendor did the install.

I like the idea of grommet panels, and you can get curtain rods that will turn the corner (IKEA has several options). I would hang 3 panels: one on the outside edge of each window and then one in the corner.

If the a c unit will be back each summer, I'd suggest any window treatment that moves up and down ---roman, roller, or other shades. Curtains might look awkward when pulled completely to the sides to accommodate the a c .
