Sink size/brand and sink base cabinet size?

I am trying to keep my sink base cabinet at 24" and I am having trouble finding a sink that will fit. I am hoping to find a 21" long sink, but, many of them suggest a 27" cabinet. I am confused about why there needs to be so much extra space around the sink? It will be the only sink in my kitchen, so I am hoping to find the biggest sink that will fit. This one looks very nice.

The recommendation is based on needing to modify the sink cabinet or not. If the cabinet is between two others, or even with the dishwasher next to it, you may be able to trim the top 1/4" or so off the sides of the cabinet to have enough clearance for the sink. Try to get a cut-sheet of the sinks you are considering, something that will show the top flange in addition to the size of the bowl itself. There is probably a much tigher tolerance than what is recommended, but keep in mind you could be modifying the sink base to make it work!

Thank you so much for taking the time to help me. Just for clarification, if my 24" cabinet has 3/4" sides then the inside dimension of the cabinet is 22 1/2". If the top flange of the sink is less than 22 1/2" I should be able to make that work? That seems logical to me, and that is why I don't understand why I need to increase the size of my cabinet base. Thanks again for responding. I really appreciate it.

Sounds about right to me, you just need to consider how the sink is mounted, etc. If it is a stone top, then it will likely be epoxied in place, so the extra clearance to install brackets may not be needed. Good luck!
