    The downrod is the length of the rod from which the fan hangs. The height depends on to which point you are referring. The overall height would be from the ceiling to the bottom of the fan, which will vary depending on the length of downrod you use. In this case, the fan includes a 12" downrod which puts the bottom of the fan 19" from the ceiling. Another critical height to consider is the height from the ceiling to the bottom of the blades. Residential fans are required to be installed at least 7 feet from the floor to the bottom of the blades. This particular fan is not a residential ceiling fan, it is an industrial fan with metal blades. Industrial fans like this are required to be installed where the blades are at least 10 feet from the floor, which means the ceiling must be at least 11.5" high.Here is a diagram that should help:
