Use decor that draws the eye up and out which will in turn move the focus away from the actual fireplace. Maybe a better picture would help because, except for the fact that the surround doesn't go too well with the flooring, it is hard for me to see anything really hateful about the fireplace. What exactly is it that bothers you?

I saw some blue so that's where I went. Add a cylinder style vase on each side. Add black branches with twinkle lights. Get artwork with black frame to balance out the fireplace. Add a black planter with succulents (real of fake) helps to soften all the hard edges.

Choose a lovely FP screen. If it is the dark surround you do not like get one large enough to cover that. You need to lower the mirror above it if it is yours & is not permanently mounted. Remove the two lonely pieces of decor on the mantle as they do not enhance the look.

IMO your fireplace is quite lovely. I would add a decorative bronze firescreen and a decorative mirror with a bronze finish mirror
