Painted Cabinets, not painted interiors

Is it typical for a cabinet maker to do painted cabinets and do the interior unpainted with veneers? That is, the exteriors of the the cabinets are all painted white, but when you open the door the interior is a natural, light-colored maple veneer. I recently had cabinets delivered and admit I didn't specify it but envisioned the interiors being painted white, too. Wondering if this is common practice?
