I wouldn't like people sitting on my bed either. Do you have normal 8' ceilings? You could run a curtain track on the ceiling and hang floor to ceiling curtains for the division. I can divide room only by length (16.4 ft - 5 m) - if I divide it by width, it gets too narrow. But it would be better to divide it by width, because we will get a window in both halfs...

You can either hang a divider curtain or place your bed behind a fold out. The fold out can be multipurpose, with a mirrored surface, depending on the look you are going for.

I'd suggest paying special attention to your furniture. If the living room and bedroom are going to be combined you don't want the furniture to look like bedroom furniture. Get something that is multi-use but looks classy.
