I think a light stone with light and dark accents would look great with your cabinet colors, possibly with a plain white backsplash.

Formica or granite?

cacc, it's not too early for the new lightbulbs, in fact it's the right time because it will show your colors more accurately. If you plan to keep the new bulbs, that is. Your cabinets look so much better! No glaze at all!

Mike-we are in N Indiana. I would love to go with granite or Quartz eventually but for now I am going to paint the countertops white to get a feel for it if that makes sense. I plan to use rust oleum countertop coating and then cover that with white chalkboard paint. I've never had white counters so I would rather err with paint first. If I don't like it it won't be much of a loss :)

Apple-pie-order. I want something that is low maintenance but pretty too. And cheap-for now. I want to use white subway tile for the backsplash and I plan to paint the countertop white-not sure what to do with the other walls or the floor yet. I also want these lights

Formica has lots of patterns. If you just want to see what white countertops and backsplash look like, buy a big roll of white shelf paper for $20 or so. Or white Contact shelf paper of the not-very-sticky type. No need to do the Rustoleum paint. Chalk paint is not recommended for countertops.

Wow, what a huge difference the LEDs made. Can you check at a big box store to see if you can find a formica repair? It just looks like the formica edges are coming off or are chipped.I love the hardware you added. Just continue adding that to all cabinets. How does the rangetop vent? With the colors you have gone with & the possibility of doing the white refinish on the counters, a very light teal color will look great for the walls. Add teal & coral for some accents such as throw rugs, bowl for island, canisters etc. Kudos to you.

So if I go with a pattern for the counters then what should I do with the floors? We have hardwood in the other rooms so I don't think I should go with a wood grain pattern for the floors?

I wanted to paint the counters and live with it for a while. The paint is chalkboard not chalk paint. I got the idea from a blogger (totally lost the url and forgot the name-I've been looking at so many sites!) She had her countertops for two years and was still happy with them. The paint I bought is non-toxic.

The counters are chipped and broken off in some places around the range. I hadn't thought about Formica repair- I will need that!

There is no vent for the range-don't judge me ;)

A backsplash with a mixture of both tones of grey in it would look good.

It's not so much the color but I'm afraid I won't like it as far as how it looks in this little room and it's "cleanability" - the shiny part appeals to my ADD ;) I LOVE the stencils though. I would like to use this but my girls think it's to busy? What do you think?

Do you think they feel the stencil is busy because of the pattern or the color combination? Look through mediterranean backsplashes in houzz photos. I think you will get a good idea on how much the color combinations play into how "busy" the pattern can be. Let us know what you think after looking...

Ok, this is what I have so far. The hardware is on, stenciled the backsplash using Benjamin Moore Moonlight white for the background (it's what I had on hand) and Valspar Notre Dame for the pattern (one of the samples leftover for the top cabinets when I was trying to decide the color) and on the wall at the end of the cabinets I used Valspar Comet Dust-which to me looked white in the container but looks grey on the walls.

The comet dust was also a left over. What I was thinking was to continue that color around the walls behind the table and also behind the fridge and then use a light teal on the wall opposite the sink, about the color of the cup?

Wow! Not only is your kitchen looking nice but I'm very impressed how the stencil backsplash turned out. What do your girls think of it? Great job. And how wonderful to use left over paint and get beautiful results.

Could you post pictures of the whole general area that you are asking about what to do in regards to painting.

I painted the walls behind the table and now am reconsidering the blue color for the wall opposite the sink. Thoughts? I welcome suggestions for lighting-is there a way to recycle these? I took the shades off to get the most light for the photos.

If you you like the teal color, but do not want the dark try SW 6757 Tame Teal by Sherwin Williams. Nice kitchen!

I think the teal (like the cup) would be too strong for your kitchen area. I like seeing color on your walls compared to the white in the dining area but I would keep it a very soft color and paint all the walls in this area the same color throughout. Put pops of color in your accessories instead. Maybe even paint the clock frame or stars turquoise if you want that color in there. Let your kitchen be the focus and star as it deserves it :)

What do you want to achieve with your lighting? Can you take a pic of them without the lights on?

I also think the blue is too much. I looked at the Tame Teal and stumbled on Sherwin Williams Rainwashed. I really like it in the photos I've seen. I'm hoping it will be as soft as it appears in photos. If it is I'll repaint -I'm a little hesitant because I don't want the kitchen to look like a nursery?

My kitchen is on the north east corner of the house and is very dark. The only light on the side with the table comes from the hanging light. I thought either clear glass globes over the bulbs or maybe frosted but I don't know if they make them to fit my lights.

This site seems to have a lot of options for globes. If you can't figure out what ones would work, I'd contact them and have them help you through it. Otherwise, if there is a good lighting store near you, I'd take your photo and the bulb with you to the store and have them help you.

Remind me what color your upper cabinets are? Monitor color distortion so I can't tell. Don't need the color name, just white, light blue or whatever it is will work.

It doesn't remind me of a nursery. Just make sure the blue and greys have the same under tones so they don't clash. If you go this way, I'd forgo any turquoise as far as accent.

That being said, I studied your kitchen more knowing the cabinet color now and I think a softer white on all the walls would be better. You have quite a few colors going on now and a "color" may just be too much. If the budget allows I'd do some window treatment in the dining area as that may be the place to introduce a pop of color. If possible, replace the calendar with something artsy and re arrange your wall with the stars, clock -maybe deleting some and adding new. We can work on that later, if you like. Add a rug in front of the sink and that may do it.

I'm going to continue with the comet dust-it is a very soft grey, almost white. I think once I get that done and get the window treatments and accessories done it'll hopefully look like the vision I have in my mind. (And I was really dreading re-painting the finished walls.) I purchased some vases that have blues, greens and aquas in an interesting pattern and I think I'll base accents on them.

It took the better part of an afternoon. It wasn't bad :)

Haven't posted in awhile. Painted the rest of the kitchen, changed the shades on the lights, hung some curtains, trying some decorations. Still waiting for my vases. I've also chickened out painting the countertops. Everything I've read says the fumes are really bad and I have my bedridden mom living here so it's a no go. I am checking into laminate countertops. I found Wilsonart white Carrara and I think it might work.

I took the valance above the sink down because I don't really like it.

Very nice. Also, I think you will like the Wilsonart laminate. We kept the laminate on the perimeter but used Silestone on the island when we updated our kitchen.
