Is there navy in the quilt? Surprisingly, navy "goes" with a lot of other colors...almost a neutral. Not sure if that is too dark for you, I kind of like darker bedrooms.

No there is not navy and I actually would like my bedroom to be brighter we have very dark colored furniture and it's way too dark I actually considered turquoise but my husband said that's too much for him LOL!!! Thanks!

I am sure yellow would make it pop. Any light color with some yellow in it would make it stand out

To make the bright colors pop, you need to make he walls a bit darker than the intensity of the quilt. You have a darker color, not sure if it's blue or green, inside the turquoise designs. You'll be surprised how dramatic that will look. Do you really want a bright wall in your bedroom? You should have something inviting and calming. If you need more light, add lights! Maybe even a cool Morroccan chandelier. I'd keep the curtains and other lights, either table lamps and/or sconces (depending not he size of the room) very modern and straight lines. Add mirrors to reflect light too. Don't confuse the eye by making things too busy. The curtains should also be a solid color. Pictures of your room would be helpful.

What about pulling that nice aqua blue from the quilt on one wall ? or if you wanna go on the same and safe side, what about a pale lavender ?

Yes yes and I love Yellow but what shade!!! It would have to make a statement and curtains???

I just read that your husband has his saying in this matter so you might have to go more neutral or even muted tone to make you both happy ...

LOVE the Bohemian style and would love to have anything that would resemble that!!!! You should have seen my other choice it was definitely hippie' and bold! But didn't come in a quilt and I'm so over comforters right now!! Thanks guys yall are so helpful!

Yellow is actually the complementary for purple so I would definitely choose an yellow colour, but like I said a muted yellow.

I think you should go with a white like the photo. It makes the comforter pop! I almost bought this comforter so I'm anxious to see what you do. Please post pics of your progress.

here are some pics you can have an ideas of using purple and yellow complementary

Adding blue grasscloth behind the bed would be so pretty and paint the other walls a similar color. Both my living room and one of my kids bedrooms is similar and it adds more impact than it does feeling dark. Your room can feel light with white linen drapery and use white sheets and white accents (ie: frames vs dark wood).

To keep it from being too over the top for your husband, I'd go with a neutral for the walls. Something sandy colored so it has that yellow but natural yellow instead of primary YELLOW? Then add some more pizazz with accessories and so on. And there are some LOVELY Moroccan style lamps available these days, they might be nice elements to include.

But I think walls being a bright or deep color comes across as particularly strong, which it doesn't sound like your husband is into. Even a large amount of fabric (like if you did a whole wall of curtain behind the headboard) in a bright color still reads as less harsh on the eye, often, than if you had the same amount of wall painted the same shade.

Let's be clear my husband doesn't dictate the colors LOL but he is entitled to his opinion LOL.... So don't be afraid color.... Color it up peeps!

Maybe you could hang a bamboo matchstick blind on the wall over the bed to give it some inexpensive texture. Find some old suitcases or travel trunk for the foot of the bed. Maybe a directors type chair too. Classic canvas or linen drapes over blinds, a couple of plants and ginger jars on the dresser. A fun bohemian meets British campaign room.

Here is a darker and muted yellow that would go with your furniture

I think a light grey. esp. one with a violet undertone, could look great with all the color in your quilt and the wood floors and furniture. Grey looks great with clean bright colors, and add some bold artwork with violet and yellow, and maybe some burnished brass or new Indian style knobs (try World Market) for your furniture.

The quilt has an Indian feel to it--can try to find a piece of furniture, a light fixture or a piece of fabric or art with a similar exotic feel. A cushy rug could be nice too.

Just looking at the quilt I would think an apple green or an yellow apricot color to start with. Find the deep colors in the quilt as the darkest color on the paint chip gradation, then move up three or four colors and buy samples of the ones you like and paint poster board and hang them on your walls to see what works. You want light because it will be more intense as it reflects off all the walls in the room.

Another idea is to paint the room a warm white like Cloud White by Benjamin Moore or Dove White and then do the ceiling a metalic gold or a very pale purple that matchs in tint to the quilt.

I'm thinking a very light soft gray would actually make the colours stand out more. Gray goes with the blue, orange and purple in the quilt. Benjamin Moore Classic Gray is quite a light gray with either Ben Moore Simply White or Snowfall white trim.

I'd wait with repainting. I actually like your current wall color. Just wait until you have everything else in the room to choose paint.

Ok. Color is not my thing. I usually am the asker, not the adviser. First of all I Love your new quilt. But when I saw it I immediately thought of a warm adobe/rust/Saltillo color. That color you think of when you think if Santa Fe. Then I grabbed my new plate from Italy that has all your colors and sure enough it had a rust color in it.

You don't have the view the quilt in its entirety, just fold it and let it hang at the bottom, and balance of the room will be mastered. The colors shown in the previous post are perfect.

I love color (and I love your quilt!) but in this case I would prefer a bright or slightly warm white as a backdrop. That would give you the freedom to go wild with color for everything else in the room. There is a great article today featuring a house in Australia that is a great example of color against light neutral, if you haven't seen it. I'd put a link here, but I can't figure out how on my iPod! Sorry!!

My gut said light aqua, but you said husband nixed that color, so I'd do a darker teal color, unless you are okay with a creamy yellow/white.

Good comments to bring new items in before painting....Coincidence that these two are 'cork wedge' and 'cork' ? I'd try 'cork' or 'India Yellow' on the windows instead of all the walls.

I think Printesa's color and image is spot on... keep it simple, and go with something you'll both like. Add a nice rug and lots of pillows to give it more of the bohemian vibe but don't go too over the top that hubby won't like it. It's all about the compromise :) Throw in some neutrals to tone it down just a drop, but they can have some bohemian appeal like the Hyacinth stool above.

I saw a room here and thought of this post. I remembered the aqua, and that you like the bohemian style. How about doing a faux finish on the wall? You wouldn't have to do the wood, and could still get a similar look as below, and it would not be so bright.

Printessa's photo seems like my India Yellow paint. I could see that on the bed wall [not a color from opposite side of color wheel] -

seems better to accent with a tone like the wood headboard and floor, natural like a spice is natural.

Photoshop, etc. would be good cause purple might be good too, but I imagine the yellow.

I'm not behaving by entering a discussion with lots of comments and not taking the time to get caught up, but with that quilt, I'd paint the walls bright white accessorize the room with a few of the wonderful, vibrant colors of the quilt.

But having in mind that it is still a bedroom....you might need something soothing since the quilt already pops by itself and stands out by his punching colour.

This type might provide a neutral base that relates to the blue in it / floor too.

I love the quilt, I need this in my bedroom. I think one shad light of the turquoise . Either the orange silk or darker shade of paint for the curtains, make sure they are long to floor.

Check Benjamin Moore's Purple Hyacinth, Naples Sunset, and Sea Life for possible Wall colors---the latter is if hubby doesn't approve the more vibrant colors... keep the rest of the linens and rug neutral. Perhaps a moroccan light or ceiling medallion... Hope this is helpful. Good Luck!

A coincidence that I was looking on houzz, and found a photo like the beautiful shade Natalie posted. Paint I think is urbane bronze.

I saw the quilt , and all I could think of was PURE White walls ! Then I would get white sheets, and a throw pillow or two in acqua, and maybe gold. I would definitely get a white fluffy area rug, and lamps on the bedside tables in some metal, either chrome or brass. Make them stand tall enough to bring your eye up, and give good light. Over the bed, I would hang something much lighter in feel. It should have a metal frame, and it should have some high color and white. On the windows, I would would put something in a gauzy fabric, with a small pattern in the gold color. Something a little bohemian like the quilt. I would fold the quilt down , to cover only half the bed, and as I said, have white sheets, and get two Euro square pillows leaning up against the headboard, and cove them in in white also ! As you can see, I like white. I do think that with your dark furniture, you need white. Not as a none color, but in order to make the everything else stand out, and give it a sense of air. I would also put the photos on the dresser in frames that add some sparkle. I would also put a lamp on the dresser. Maybe a bright color ceramic, like yellow, and a white shade. If you want to paint your walls a color, Benjamin Moore Crystal Blue 2051-70, would look really great. Actually , I would do that instead of white, but I would still put a lot of white in the room . The color on the walls now, is just too muddy for the look you seem to be going for with this quilt. The quilt is not just color, it has a definite vibe to it , and could transform your room !
