I have not had reason to use them yet, but i have heard good reviews on Home Reserve. it sounds amazing, Green, American, heard that they serve very well with pets and children, people have had them for more than 10 years, and all parts are interchangeable. Let us know!

I just checked out Home Reserve online and they seem similar to an IKEA concept. Any idea how they hold up?

like I said, I have never owned one, but, I went to several review places and people are talking about they started with it at their dorm or first apt, thought they would toss it. 10 years later they are changing out the arms and upholstery and placing the same piece in their homes. It looks pretty impressive to me. the only thing negative is that when you put it together (which is supposed to be much easier than ikea) you should wear the gloves and then clean up carefully because of splinters. So, if you get one, let me know how it wears. i don't know anyone personally that has one. It just seems so cool!

It does seem very cool. I saw some reviews but they were kind of old from 2011 & 2012.

How about Jonathan Louis? Any experiences with them?

Mitchell Gold offers great design and their furniture is very well made. Room & Board is also great!

mitchell gold, no reviews, period. Prices are way above my head, over $2000 for a chair, not leather. Room and board, sofa a great deal lower, nothing under $1100 though. made with pressed board, is it better, i don't know, don't think so. As always, depends on you.

honestly, i think real furniture is a reason to visit real brick-and-mortar stores. even places like the Macy's home store have a lot of quality furniture that's built to last. plus, you can sit in it and so forth...

Flexsteel sofas and chairs last forever! Try them out and see what you think. I have a Harden sofa going on 19 years in my family room; It has been amazing. I am getting it reupholstered this spring and adding an ottoman to make it into a chaise on one end.!

HI -- That old saying - you get what you pay for - still applies today . Lots of cases the sofa was made well but the fabric was not . Some of the furniture that comes out of North Carolina now is made with chip board in it . There use to be Sklar Peppler furniture that was well made from Canada but the US ones were not . They are gone now . Here in Canada we have Barrymore Sofas -- never had one but they have a high rating . I currently have a custom refurbished mid century sofa -- cost $6000. but the Robert Allen fabric has not faired too well .

thegypsyrover - I would say mid-range. Maybe around $1500ish. Thank you all for the comments and tips. I've been to several furniture stores in my area and I did fall in love with a Robert Michael sectional but the sectional will not work in my living room. )-:

yeah my mom's was around 2000 and this was in early 60s mind you. I have never paid over $1000 starting with early 80s. I still get 8-10 years use. I have owned 3 couches in a little over 30 years.

Oh chetna, 1500 is not mid range in real world. there are $15000 sofas in mid range. poor thing, I found it really hard when i realized just how far down the food chain i really was. tehehe

I have bought 3 sofas from clubfurniture.com. Custom made, they send you fabric swatches before or after you order and you can change your fabric selection after you see the swatches. It is really well done, very comfortable, looks high end and easy to clean the fabrics.

Well smith brothers does not sell, you have to give them all your personals so they will email you back (after they approve perhaps?) Went to a dealer - Hilliards, they are a put in the cart when we ring it up we will tell you. So, if you have to ask you do not belong here. I live in Amish country, excellent furniture, gulp the price.

club furniture, quick check, prices seem ok, One at a little over $900 running to about $1500. Review 4 negs in 5 minutes, all referred to positive reviews they saw, but I saw none.

I have no clue, you need to check your area or go online to see reviews of your area? Someone said macy's is good. I have never been there. Where I live now there is Johnny Janosik and rooms to go. Never see either listed as the best around.

There is a very good post about buying your forever sofa. Lots of really good information. It was a few months ago, but you can still find it. Even though this will not be your forever sofa, there are lots of suggestions.

Lee Industries makes solid quality sofas. Not the absolute lowest price point but excellent value for the money. Crate and Barrel carries some of their lines and has an annual upholstery sale which unfortunately I think may have just ended.

The sofas sold at Pottery Barn are a lower end line of Lee Industries, not at all the same. A good design shop or interior decorator who has an account with Lee Industries can source the product.

Smith Brothers does not sell direct to the consumer. The brand is sold through furniture dealers, both small mom and pop and larger furniture stores. Check out their on-line catalog along with fabrics, company history and the specifics of their manufacturing process. I own two Smith Brothers sofas, both the same in our family room along with a chair. My daughter also purchased a sofa, chair and leather recliner from Smith Brothers. I would say their prices are mid range starting at around $1300 for a sofa, a lot depends on the fabric chosen. I paid around 1450 for my sofas and $1200 for the chair, which was a top grade fabric which I fell in love with... I have heard as "having fun" has said they do not deal direct with the end user, all dealings are with the furniture stores that carry their brand, luckily we have several stores in northeast Ohio that are dealers, stand by the product and have good customer service.

Ethan Allen makes very good quality furniture, which will last, and is made in the USA. They stand behind their products, and you can get free design help in choosing your fabrics. You should always try out upholstered furniture in person rather than ordering online, so you can check the quality and comfort.

I have read some bad reviews on Ethan Allens sofas. I also recall the construction of EA sofas aren't very good but it was a few months ago I looked will look again now. Thank you

you see i think a lot has to do with where it is bought too. just like outlet malls carry different quality surely that happens with other things too.

i also believe that many people are not being honest with themselves. if you feel you have to have a new kitchen every 5-10 years, no way do you wish to have a forever couch. couches are like everything else. their devaluation begins once they leave the store door, so it is not going to go up in value while your bottom is using it. now under this new parameter, how much do you want to pay for your lease on that real estate? $1000 a year? $100/year?

To me, a $100/year sounds good. not redecorate for roughly 10 years so about $1000. I have had all my nontied, nonleather, nonnamed etc sofas for roughly 10 years, then i sold or donated and bought another. I also have always found that if one is very uncomfortable that is what pillows are for. in general, the more comfy they are? the less time they last - like beds. plus you then lounge on them more, causing more damage to the couch.

So, i you tell me that I can get a couch that lasts over 10 years, for less than $500, and then i can get a new style of arm, and have it recovered, all for less than $400. I am in heaven. especially since noone has complained about hardness.

I really love my sofa from Living Spaces! It's held up well to my six year old child.

Having fun, it happened to me. Bought a down blend cushioned sofa that was quite expensive and was horrible! It broke down within a few years.

I have read this same story with some expensive Restoration Hardware sofas.

I have ended up buying the feather/down wrapped cushion seats from ClubFurniture. I was just worried about the all foam being too hard. I so hope I don't have the same experience!

Love our Axis from Crate and Barrel. We have animals and small children and it has held up great!

i think those are the ones who used to make out of shipping crates? wood panels with separate cushions? The head of the middle school i worked for insisted on those. they held up over 10 years to very rambunctious preteens. just not very pretty.

Anymore experience with Club Furniture? I've seen it mentioned a few times in this thread, but no one came back and said how it held up. I'm considering the Janice Sofa. Thanks!
