Choosing Sink for Butcherblock Countrtops

I'm having a hard time choosing a kitchen sink. The countertops will be Ikea butcherblock in Oak. We were going to get a stainless steel drop in sink but now I'm also looking at the Blanco silgranit sinks. I want a sink that is simple but not boring.

We like the Metallic Gray. Our appliances are SS and the lower cabs will be a dark gray. Do you think Metallic Gray would look good with butcherblock? I can't find any pictures online of butcherblock countertops with Blanco sinks.

Or do you think stainless steel would be a better look with butcherblock?

Are you planning an undermount? Butcher block and water don't play well together. If at all possible, consider a small stone or other surround for your sink. If you were to use solid surface in a matching hue, I think the silgranite could be fine. Post images when you can.

I don't understand the fear of wood and water in the kitchen. Boats? You just have to ensure adequate marine varnish is applied and maintained.

You don't eat on your boat surface, do you? Or do you? You shouldn't use marine varnish everywhere nightowl. Many of these varnishes cannot give you a food safe surface, and they may contain heavy metals. There are some food safe certified varnishes, but if they will require maintenance and you won't be able to cut on your surface. All in all, the stone surround embedded into the butcher block is the best solution I've seen for the water v. wood issue. It also looks great.

I don't eat food on any counter surface. I use cutting boards and plates.

FWIW, waterlox has said, either here or at the old ikeafans site, that the difference between their marine finish and their regular finish has nothing at all to do with it being more waterproof but rather more resistant to direct sunlight, so I would ask about other finishes, too, that have a marine v regular option.

EDIT There are plenty of folks here with undermounts in BB and the verdict seems to be mostly favorable, although a few people have had problems.

The Silgranit BlancoDiamond Super Single can be installed either overmounted or undermounted. Plus the BlancoDiamond has the excellent corner drain - once you go corner drain, you will never go back to center drain haha. What size is your sink cabinet?

I would 100% choose the Silgranit over the stainless steel. Check out both the Metallic Gray that you mentioned, and the Cinder (both pictured below, though the photos I am attaching are definitely darker than the colors in real life, but they were the first photos I came across). The Cinder might look nice as a little more contrast. The best thing to do is to call Blanco customer service, and ask for sample chips of both. They will mail them to you in about a week. It will really help to see the sample colors in your kitchen.

I put food directly on my counters. I don't use a plate or cutting board if I'm making a sandwich - the bread is on the counter. I roll out pie crust on my quartz counters. And if I drop a glob of melted cookie dough or frosting on the counter, I wipe it up with my finger and eat it!

Perhaps I've just confessed to being the world's biggest slob, but I'm not ashamed.

I do too AnnKH...pie crust, bread dough, sugar cookies, kolachkes (sp?), pierogies...all are rolled out directly on my counter...and I have eaten countless globs of cookie dough, glaze or frosting off my counter as well!!! Count me in with the slobs I guess!!!!
