I tend to agree with the black. It will add more interest and contrast to the room.

I'd say go with the black color versus the brushed nickel. The brushed nickel look has been done for ages and I think the black could be really great in the space!

I think black hardware is modern and looks great. And I disagree that you don't need to tie in the black of the island. You need to repeat the black in some way to give effect. There are lots of options and it really depends on what feel you want in the room.

I agree the black hardware would make the room look busy. The latest trends are returning to the warmth of brushed brass. Sounds horrific I know, But the new finishes have more nickel tone to them which makes them fresh. That tone in the hardware would echo the soft tones in your flooring.

I'll go ahead and cast a vote for unlacquered brass. It'll darken over time to a nice golden black/brown, and you can always just polish it back up and lacquer it if you find you like the gold color.

The hardware is often referred to as zinc.
