Excellent, although we have a trickle going through the basement. It sits on a partially exposed granite slab, so I'm not hugely worried. I was just out planting some perennials during the lull and had to make a mad dash in. Now we are getting doused again.

Oddly, in my raised beds in the back of my yard only the first 3 inches of soil were wet. The rest was still on the dry side. I'm hoping with the hurricane coming it will restore the balance of this summer's drought.

Nice rain! Nice rain! There's supposed to be a break tomorrow so I can bring in some of the more tender houseplants before more rain comes along with much colder temperatures.

I prefer steady sensible rain so I'm warily watching the hurricane's progress. If the hurricane would just brush by offshore without all the winds....

So glad to have ANY rain in Rockingham Cty, NH. It's been incredibly dry. I picked whatever tomatoes were close to ripe yesterday (because today they would be splitting from the fast infusion of water they did not expect). Maybe I should have brought in some of the indoor plants that are outside, though. Now they are HEAVY. One rain gauge overflowed, and the other toppled over, so don't know what we got! Let's hope for no serious tropical storm issues.

Susan, how much water does your rain gauge that overflowed hold? I was watching news reports earlier today and they were saying about four inches. My rain gauge had over six and a half inches in it and I was wondering if it's not calibrated properly, or did we really get that much rain!?!

"Only" 1.98 inches in SW CT, but we are thrilled, Yippee!! (Hoping for the best as we move into the weekend.....enough, but not too much, please! Fingers crossed!!)

t2d Susan, I had a pot accumulating rain and the water was at least 6 inches deep. The rain was torrential. Flooded Waltham St, stranding three cars windows deep.

Took us a half hour to go 2 miles to the Y pool, which felt very redundant.

I checked the empty bucket and the garden cart this morning and both of them had about six inches of water, so we had about the same amount as Marie near Boston.

The winds are picking up and I had to straighten up two little cedars I recently transplanted. They're staked better now.

T2d and Marie, the gauge that overflowed was only 2", the one that fell over measures to 6", so I don't know. The wheelbarrow was loaded, though. The thirsty ground seems happy!

Are we looking forward to a late crop of weeds, or is it getting too cold?

I tend to live in an area with a micro climate..The thunder storms and very heavy downpours seem to zip just north and south of me..So I only got 2 inches..Scratched the mulch away from plants and only two inches down was still dusty dry..I pray for more rain)
