Original, ORIGINAL Tide powder...like Larsi said.

I also like the smell of A&H Plus Oxi Clean Fresh Scent.

I go with Tide original powder that unfortunately is no longer made,(in the great scent) also Fab 1 Shot another deceased great smell IMO.

    Vaska Lavender tabs. Way underrated.

Honestly.... Gain Apple Mango Tango. I'm so sad they discontinued the fabric softener in that scent. This is the first machine I've used FS in, so I never thought to buy any while it was still available. They still make the detergent, but I don't know if I have seen any locally lately. (And yes, I do have wax melts in that fragrance!)

    Vaska Lavender liquid.

I love Purex Mountain Fresh and had many compliments on it. The original Tide was wonderful too. I don't mind the smell of Persil, but it is a bit overwhelming. I really haven't tried many others recently. I am using Ariel w/downy now and like it, but the original Ariel smells better to me.

I'm scent sensitive so...Charlie's soap :) Ok that wouldn't count..Zum Cedar...but that's not a detergent...hmm I just got some Seventh Ultra Power Plus Fresh Scent..it uses bergamot, a few citrus oils, and a touch of lavender, smells nice out of the washer, but nothing out of the dryer

I love them all-just different ones for different days. now sspeer is talking about one I have never heard of! (DO Not like the new bubble gum tutti fruitti scents) I used Ariel Original Scent for a load of washcloths then added bleach the last 5 minutes-that combination is terrific what a clean fresh scent-WOW!

Cheer powder but it's a bit too sudsy. Also like Tide original.

aa62579-Gain Apple Mango Tango is my kid's favorite hands down. They love it so I buy it for them. I sometimes use the Febreze Gain plug-in and I have to say it's got a very nice scent!

British Persil soap powder from the seventies, then British Persil Automatic from the seventies runner up is a tie between German Persil Universal powder and Miele UltraWhite powder.

    Ivory...

Practigal, Ivory?? Are you trying to drive me insane with my hunt for Ivory Snow..lol..hey its not a drive, its a short walk..hehe.

Correct. I always wonder how the product/brand managers at the various companies arrive at their decision to stop supporting a product. It's something that absolutely mystifies me because so much of the newer stuff is not interested or worthwhile. All I can figure out is that there is not enough transition at the companies such that the only way a younger person can get higher up on the food chain is to introduce a new product... Other departments would like a new product too for instance a new product would also give the marketing department and other areas an opportunity to do their thing which they don't need to do with the stable and but sure product…still I wish that they had kept with the original product… I haven't been able to find Ivory Snow powder anywhere for many months, transitioning away from Ivory Snow resulted in the destruction of all of my elasticized garments many of which had held up very well for about 20 years, and while they have introduced a new liquid form of Ivory Snow I really don't like liquid detergents and I doubt that whatever was making the elastic last so well with your original Ivory Snow exists in the liquid form.... I think the liquid form contains a lot of water, which is cheap so you get fewer loads for the same amount of weight of detergent and it results in more profits to the company and of course the consumer really doesn't matter. To be clear I think this applies to all liquid detergents, not just Ivory Snow.

It's a tie for me: Tide Original powder AND Forever New powder!

I love Seventh Generation liquid, Geranium and vanilla, for the smell! It does not smell of vanilla at all, and it has a hint of spice. Otherwise it smells like clothing that might have a touch of bleach and line dried. That ozone smell that happens just before a rain. That's what it reminds me of. I got this bottle 2 years ago and haven't seen it since. It has 3 enzymes in it.

@enduring- I just saw that exact detergent & scent at the grocery. I didn't buy it because the price was outrageous. $17.99 for that tiny box. I can get a big jug of Tide for that price. Or 4 bags of Ariel. I just couldn't swing it today. Is it really worth the price?

I love the smell of Vaska. The lavender tablets and liquid are amazing and even the unscented leaves a a subtle herbal smell. They don't do great with stain removal but I love them for blankets and sheets. If I didn't have pets and kids I would use Vaska for everything.

Sandy, I've never used Vaska, but heard good things, I know a lot of these more Earth friendly products don't have the best reputation as far as stain removal, expecially enzyme free detergents, but I've found that getting water temps up, at least to 140f...makes a tremendous difference. But I know not all fabrics can handle higher temps.

Original tide from back in the day.

Mama- Vaska is very sudsy. I tried a boil wash with it and had to abort mission :) The softner is nice too.

Vaska liquid is 4X concentrated. I had Ghostbusters from it and had to give it away.
The tabs are mostly washing soda I believe. They are very soft so I'm able to break off half or a quarter easily. That keeps the suds down. Like sandy1616 said, they do a great job with low soil loads. I use them for my towels -- they were recommended by the manufacturer. But they don't make the towels any softer. I still need FS.

Cheer and original AF Downy. I look forward to trying your recipe to simulate original AF, mamap (by cutting Tide AF), right after I get through the 2 Sam's mega vats of Suavitel that my husband bought. I think he likes the smell because he doesn't know how to do laundry at all.

Pawprints, wow I must have really splurged on that detergent (Seventh Generation). I use it for a few things only, because I love the scent and want to make it last. So undergarments and sheets that don't get soil on them. The bottle states 3 enzymes, but as far as stain removal, I don't know. I don't get stained clothes usually.

For stained towels, I use a powder like Persil or Miele for whites. Then add STPP and Oxi. They come out very clean at 140f or the sanitized temp of 158f. DH uses the hand towels to dry his grubby hands. He gets lots of ground in dirt and oil from farm machinery and daily farm chores. The white towels are stain free and WHITE.

Non of my clothes have much of a scent when they come out of the dryer. I use 3 rinses always. In the wash cycle I have a touch of bubbles. Occasionally a bit more.

Sounds like your doing a fabulous job.
