We used a combination of yellow pine, clear pine and fir! Like I said the comments, we weren't terribly concerned about it looking too organized because it was supposed to feel like a tree house. As for the stain, I can't remember exactly what color we used, but it was a Minwax Polyshades! Thanks and good luck!
