The lighting/shadows look bad. An aluria cove light above the TV and between the openings (but slightly above them) will fix that issue and give the room a better look.

I'm not sure we could do something that elaborate as we are on somewhat of a budget, but I can see where it would give it a better look, thanks!

An easy option would be to add a non-geometric horizontal wall art object above the T.V. and a vertical one on the right side.

Unfortunately I didn't get the idea from a Houzz photo but I'll see if I can quickly find one. I've noticed most Houzz photos have either nothing around a T.V. or a lot around a T.V. I think a T.V. wall can look empty with nothing and busy with too much, especially when the items are many black picture frames which mimic vs. create interesting contrast with the T.V. Design ideas around the T.V. have been lacking since the floor-to-ceiling wall units became less popular and T.V.'s were mounted on walls and on consoles.

Put 2 stacked mirrors on one side

and on the other side a vertical picture

Here is a nice wall that could work in your room.

You could paint this one wall a softer accent color seen in one of your art pieces.......maybe an apricot or a soft sage or gold or simply the trim color in your room to add simple interestc

Find some traditional sconces and hang at 65 inches center from floor about 12 inches out; you wil have to eyeball it. If you do not want to pay to have the sconces hard wired you can do extended cord covers that match the metal of the lamps. They just pop over the cords.

Add a heavier larger dark wood fan.

Replace lightweight valances with Roman woven blinds! You're done for a possible look.

I love your letter but I would make the flower/plant taller by half at least.

You guys are giving me some great ideas! Please keep them coming! Does anyone think I should be adding something above the TV? I feel like it's just a big black box. Maybe a grouping that is tall and wide. Maybe a grouping of three of something?

Even tho you have the high ceilings you don't want to draw the eyes up over the TV. Having something on each side of the TV is enough distraction.

I think that your drapes are too low over the windows. I would raise the rods just even with the door frame top or an inch or 2 below. If you hang something on each side of TV I would put the top of those the same height as curtain rods. That will give your room a better look.

Try adding two bookshelves one on each side of the TV that match your wood cabinet.

Remove the base board behind them. Attaching the bookcases to the wall give the illusion that it is a built-in. Join them with a matching crown molding against the wall across the top. You can then paint the space behind the TV a nice color like gray or navy.

susan2429 you are right about the drapes being too low on the windows, we recently bought the house and I haven't made changes to the window treatments yet. I do like the idea of going higher. Also, the TV and console aren't centered on the wall because of furniture placement. It has to be that way. So not sure of hanging things on sides that are unequal? Amanda, we just bought that media cabinet. Then the hubs opted for a larger TV! Marylou, your idea sounds similar to the picture soosun posted above. Great ideas!

Try to find a narrow vertical picture for the left of TV and a wider picture for the right side, that way it will balance the entire wall. If you want to measure each side of the wall by TV and the height of the TV, I will look for something for each side that will work to give you an idea. Book cases and shelves are always a good idea, but you have to fill them also and unless you have the personal items to fill them, you end up shopping for items. 1 or 2 pieces on each side are easier to handle.

Would a big clock work

Not over the TV, but would look great above mantle. Check out Pier 1 for wall clocks. They have some large beautiful ones.

I would do a wall mount for the TV to raise it a bit off the cabinet. I also think your drapery is hung too low and the rod should be at the height of the doorway or match the height of the drapery on the adjoining room.

Would you consider a "layered" look? We are in an apartment with 12' ceilings in the living room and our TV wall is kind of a big blank but too tall canvas.

So I stole an idea I saw in a vintage RV- I don't have it together yet or I would send a complete picture. The idea is I have LED lighted metal letters that spell Wander and then I am looking for the perfect map wall mural or removable wallpaper picture to go behind the letters. So the letters are slightly above the TV and most of the map will be under the letters partially and behind the TV but come out either side.
Have no idea if t will turn out well. Just to get your creative juices flowing on a budget.

ccaro4 I love your wander sign and map idea! Super cute! I would love to see the finished product. I found these wood and iron pieces at Kirklands. They are individual pieces about 3x4ft each. I would love to incorporate 1 or both on my TV wall. Any ideas? Or are they too big? Maybe 1 in the middle with something smaller on each side?

We had a similar problem and our surround sound speakers were at a weird spot (too low) so I blended them in with different sizes and colors that were in the rug and couch. See picture.

Create a "Color Block" on the wall to highlight the area and add a few shelves to create a setting for the TV.

Holly your art is beautiful and I love the colors! However, I think it is a little too contemporary for me. Joni, you really made that work! What does everyone think of those wood/iron pieces I like? Am I trying to add them where they don't really go? lol I love them!
