A basket weave or rhomboid backsplash would complement the chandeliers nicely. Resist the urge to get on the subway train.

Slate blue or Greige for the wall color.

Red or terra-cotta accents.

@nnigrt - thank you for your suggestions! Good point to pick tile I like and not think about the wall color.

@juillan - I very much like the first one. The tile is 'classic' with a bit of whimsy and the tile would pair nicely with the chandelier.

Would the blue work with oak trim? I was thinking I wanted to have the wall color blend in with the oak, but maybe I should embrace it. Thank you for your advise!

Gray blue and gray greens look fabulous with medium wood floors, trims and doors.

I would paint walls white and do glass tile up to underside of upper cabinets and under cabinet lighting to lighten up space. Scull over fireplace needs to go away and I would paint it a warm gray or your terra cotta color.

It looks like you appreciate bold colour! There are some neutral colours of tile we have in unique patterns, or we also have a wide range of lively designs you may also find interesting. I'm thinking of those chandeliers and your newer modifications as jumping-off points...

Since you already have a low backsplash, you only need something cosmetic. What about using the same wood as on your soffit and paint it white?

Edgewater - I LOVE all of them. I've been drawn to geometric tile patterns because it's me and adds a bit of edge.

Blue is a remarkably wonderful soothing color for your home. I've got it in 3 rooms, and love it.

One thing I've learned since we started renovating our home is that if a color doesn't work, you can always repaint. And believe me, I have, and it's always been for the best. Sometimes you don't know what works or doesn't until you try it.

Always get samples and try it on either a piece of sheet rock [you can get small pieces in the paint section of big box stores] or a poster board so you can move it around.

Another couple of colors that would look fabulous with your wood and stone is olive green and gray green. I have both in my house as well [my house is very colorful as I love color!] and it looks great with the wood trim, doors and hardwood. It also fades a little more into the background than blue does.

I would go with white subway tile and a light gray on the walls, it would lighten up the space and make it look larger. See balboa mist from Benjamin Moore (OC-27), a beautiful relaxing neutral that bring light in.

Your carpet is a very nice blue! We do have some geometric options as well, and pretty much any combination is available between pattern and colour, as a custom order. In the tile below, the white sections are smooth glass and the darker parts are black mirrored glass with a wavy surface.

False soffits? None of my kitchen soffits go wall to wall. Could it be there isn't anything hiding inside?
