without a photo, i cant much make suggestions particular to you. i'm surprised they placed it in an entryway as the door opening will set it off. try to ignore it, place art near it as though its not there at all.

The thermostat needs to not be covered to work properly so you best option is to have an electrician move it if it's where you don't like looking at it.

Keep in mind as nnigrt pointed out that such things are photoshopped out of pictures. It's more important to have a functional home than to have it look perfect like the pictures you see on here. It's similar to most woman not looking like Gwyneth Paltrow.
