That is a beautiful room. IMO there is a lot of dark, heavy pieces in the room that is crying out for light and airy. If you are considering getting rid of the sofa, I would sell the loveseat also. You also have 2 heavy dark cabinets next to the eating area. Do you have another place for the tall armoire? That would open up the area for more space for the dining set. A nice piece of art would look great on that wall.

Consider a new sofa facing the TV 2 accent chairs on the left facing the windows. How much seating do you need for watching TV on a regular basis? I am thinking that the 2 chairs in the corner could be moved to face the FP and replace them with a tall tree/plant.

Thanks, Susan, for the advice. The pictures are deceptive re the light and that gave me a little chuckle. They were taken late afternoon, and actually we have so MUCH light, it is a problem! I understand your point re the size of some of the pieces. I'd love some ideas on chairs only! Any thoughts?

DO you have a problem with the light/sun on the furniture? I don't want to recommend something that might fade out. Also do you have any color preferences?

I don't know how you feel about white or ivory, but with the style of your home, I don't want it to be too coastal. You did just ask about chairs, but I was thinking a white leather Chesterfield sofa would look great in the room. That would open up your options to chairs that are solid or print in an accent color that you like. It appears that the corner chairs are red/burgundy so perhaps a print or a stripe would work. Tell me what you think and I can get some chair ideas for you.

I love your home! Swivel chairs are very comfortable, many are rounded on the top and would look less "boxy" than the current chairs. They would compliment your coffee table as well.

Sorry, I was commenting on the picture from the Kiawah family home. But four swivel chairs would work in your space. I would then remove the two chairs in the corner so that there wouldn't be so many single seats all around.

Your home appears more traditional (by the photos) so I was thinking about some wingback chairs. They come in some beautiful fabrics now. They are usually very comfortable and have evolved from the old leather-den mode.

So happy, and so many great ideas! I really thought I was going to get solicitations for paid advice. You're all wonderful! I hope I answer all the questions: we face due north, and the sun is an issue. In the GR, the large armoire (bar) is the center section of 3 pieces. I know that if we rejoined them and put them on the bench wall in the foyer many problems may go away, but it's huge, heavy and Ugh! Seems to be a significant part of my problem though, doesn't it? Our tastes are truly eclectic with many of the wood pieces from Indonesia (teak), combined with black. Although the pictures do not reflect it, our walls are shades of gray, no window covering except for Roman shades in the east and west Windows.

Re-decorating can be a daunting experience. We do get in a comfort zone and even tho we want a change it is hard to actually move beyond what is familiar. I think the 1st step is making the decision to make the change. If we are not ready to do that then any suggestions will not move us forward. My advice is to look at the room and really decide what you want it to be and then go for it. Perhaps selling (or giving away to family) a sofa and replacing it with 2 chairs is all you need to get the decorating juices flowing to do more.

Yikes...you are not going to like my response, but here goes: That window wall with the fireplace is fabulous. It is, without a doubt, your ONLY focal point. I am of the mind that if a t v is that important in your life, you need a room just for that. Do you have another room for t v watching? Like a finished basement?

I agree with Judy, I was thinking the same thing. Move the Tv to another room, if possible. then place the furniture to enjoy the focal point of the beautiful view.

We have a small media room, but we entertain a lot, or, especially for football games, and we need the room. Point taken, but that is the one wall that is not up for debate. Behind that could console is the computer panel/brain center for the entire house.

Well worth it to hire someone to relocate the big armoire. That should allow you to hang the TV where the armoire is now, mounted on an articulated arm so you can adjust for glare from all the windows. To seat all the footballers, use one sofa on the current TV wall and an identical one in an "L" with it. Three seaters will be best and this will open the view from the entry to the FP a bit. Add a big square coffee table or hassock for people to put their feet on. A pair of swivel chairs perpendicular to the FP/window wall can "close" this arrangement to make a "U" and they can turn to watch TV. If you like the two chairs in the right corner, replace that table with a small chess table so the corner has a purpose.

Happy to hear about the function of the room. Makes it easier to help arrange a comfortable and helpful arrangement. Since it is a more casual entertainment room for socializing and TV watching then the focus should be on that activity. This room can be both a hub of friends and family and also a place where you can relax for just 2 or 4.

Choose some comfortable chairs to face the windows. Not the best viewing for TV but you can always do swivel chairs. Forget the wingbacks, great for conversation not so much for TV football games. If the Bar Armoire is used for gatherings then keep it where it is. If not used then bite the bullet and let someone else make use of it in their home. Pull the 2 chairs out of the corner and move closer to the sofa. Put a tall tree in their place. Treat the FP as an accessory not a vocal point. Nice to have in the room, De-clutter all the items on tables, under tables and quit making your life revolve around "stuff".

A pair of either of these two sofas plus two of the swivel chairs would be my choice. That will seat 8 and you'll have the chairs with the chess table and the extra chairs at the dining table if the game crowd exceeds that number.

What a pair of swivel chairs, you would be able to turn them around and see the fireplace. or put the chairs across from each other parallel to the fireplace with an ottoman in between,

sofa is from overstock.com ITEM# 16087013 It is not very long 79" same size as I have in my LR, but you might want bigger? Measure your space. Price is good and so are reviews.
