You are certainly more tech savvy than I am. I was not aware
of a Plant I.D. App. I guess that I am still somewhat old school and struggle
to keep up with your ever changing tech world.

I have some reservation with the ring disease identification
along with the too wet cause. There appears too possible be a potyvirus symptom
BUT I have forwarded this link to a friend that is more competent in the
pathology/viral issues concerning cannas. Let’s await a 2nd opinion
and I will get back as soon as possible.

Thank you...I would hate to not be able to grow this one. It's located away from all my other cannas. All in all the app is amazing. You can take a picture of an unknown plant, pest, or problem and usually an expert somewhere around the world gives you a response within 48 hours or so.

My particular problem with this daddy's sunshine canna is that the speckles lead me to think it's mosaic, but those weird long yellow-edged patterns I have not seen before and throws me off.

Just a quick follow up with the reply I received from my
contact at the University.

Hi Kent,

That is strange. I have never seen that particular type of issue before. I am
used to seeing very linear veinal streaking, but nothing quite like that. I
haven't run across any literature about any of the "ring" viruses
being able to jump into cannas. But I know they have reported impatiens
necrotic ring virus in dahlias, so maybe we just haven't looked hard enough
yet.

That speckling
definitely looks like potyvirus to me, though. Very suspicious.

Please don’t read much into the mention of “ring virus”. Let
me be perfectly clear. No ring virus infections have ever been reported in
cannas to date to the best of my knowledge. The speckle mottling seen in the
leaf strongly hints of a possible potyvirus infection.

As stated above, neither me nor my contact have seen this
particular issue on cannas. One thing that kind of jumped out at me was the appearance
of this problem in corn crops that I have seen; it is often identified as
anthracnose leaf blight. See the link below.

You may wish to read the description of this type of infection
but I do not believe that your canna leaf symptom quite fits the bill at this
time.

Ideally we would like to send leaf samples to a pathology
lab for investigation. I am not sure how practical that is for you.

Definitely keep this plant separated for your healthy
plants. If you choose to grow it, I would be interested in seeing if the leaf
becomes necrotic.

Not sure how you are watering your plants but I suggest not wetting
the foliage late in the day.

So interesting...it's so weird because the speckles looks viral however those where'd-shaped patterns are completely new. I separated them even further away from all my cannas. I water every three-four days and always at the base of the cannas.

I would be up to sending them to a lab, but I would need to know where and to whom.

its so weird because I've ordered like five of this particular variety and they all turned out with this issue. Never have I had an issue with one of Brian's cannas. Here's one of my favorites from him...Maui Punch
