Thanks, Patricia, but we're definitely going for clear glass cabinets. These cabinets will be for our top level row - our ceilings are 118'', so in addition to base cabinets and 40'' uppers, we still have space for another 15 to 20'' of upper-uppers, and these are the ones I want to have the clear glass doors. Basically, they are going to be so high that they won't serve much function but rather some visual appeal - like in the image below (except more modern look all through the rest of the cabinets; I just really like the glass uppers).

That said, if we'd go with glass for the mid-uppers, we'd likely choose frosted as you're suggesting.

So the issue still remains: how do we un-frost the frosted glass?

I'd actually contacted a few of those IKEA hacking companies already (including semihandmade), and they either do not deal with glass at all (as is a case with semihandmade) or can not offer the white in the same white as IKEA does. I've also reached out to some glass shops (not related to anything IKEA), and that seems to be the most viable option - if IKEA frame will permit simply exchanging the glass. We'll see!

Can you get doors that come with no glass at all? That way you can take it to a glazier's and get clear glass installed.

IKEA AXTAD has a simple matte white frame with clear glass. I am replacing our JUTIS frosted doors with these and will have the frames repainted gloss white if they don’t look good next to the adjoining RINGHULT doors

Take the doors to you local glass company. They can replace the glass. We did this for a kitchen, we wanted a couple of glass inserts. It was not that expensive.

I have experience with glass and you can’t de-frost glass, it’s an etch that permeates the glass itself. Your best bet is going to a glass/mirror store and have the glass switched. Bring your doors along, they can easily replace the glass to clear.
