Need detailed answer about strong odor in one room!!!

I will try to be as factual as possible...The odor is very strong when the sun is in the room, and especially if the door is closed or we have been out for a few days. It is a hot metal/chemical odor that really bothers my eyes, and burns my nose. I have checked:Blinds, Curtains, electric,outlets and switches, carpet,paint, exercise equipment, phone, tv, etc...(the room is used for extra TV, and workout equipment.) Nothing smells!!! Also nothing under the house going on at all. Room painted about 4-5 years ago.The smell when extreme makes me feel sick. Nothing dead anywhere either. Ceiling fan light not on. We disconnected the heating in this room also. Nothing left!

My husband and I were wondering if it could be the windows? The glass itself allowing in ultraviolet and causing OZONE, etc? Windows are wood,20+ years, and the storm windows have strange cloudy fog on them. Extreme sunlight on this side of our house. We are really getting concerned, as winter is on the way and the house will be closed up.

*Note: The only other issue we have going on with the house is pending support beam work and added pillars under it due to past termite damage and dampness. We have had plumbing,electrical, etc checked...

Is this a house you just bought or have you owned it a while and the odor is new?

This is an off the wall thought, but why don't you call the fire marshall's office and see if they would come and inspect it and see if the might have an idea what's going on. The reason I say this is that you said it's a hot metal smell so who knows if you don't have some issues with wiring or something going on.

The cloudy look on your windows is more than likely the seal has broken in your windows and they're leaking. I'd recommend having someone come out and check it all out, sounds like your home is older and wiring not up to date? Our niece and her husband recently lost their home due to old wiring and their dryer caused a fire in their attic. Also, some fires will smolder for awhile before getting noticeable.
Better to be safe than sorry and also be away from home and worry the entire time.

I have seen instances where a leaking roof causes mold inside a wall cavity in isolated spots. This can cause intermittent odor which is stronger when sunlight heats up the cavity from transferring heat through the wall (little like an oven). A small leak which allows occasional water into a wall cavity will cause this, and their odors can have a chemical type of fragrance. Are there any low slope roof areas, valley, or other higher risk roof terminations or abutments which may be leaking without your knowledge? Or plumbing? If there is water inside a cavity, it is highly likely that mold is occurring.
