I went to visit a stone yard in my area and they told me that they can pre-darken soapstone, using a chemical process. They were very light on details. They said it can still be oiled. Has anyone ever heard of this? Pros and cons?

Also, does anyone have a soapstone source they'd recommend near Pittsburgh? I did not get a good gut feeling from the owner of this place.
