Thank you ATG stores. I totally agree with you about making the most of our space but we kind of go back and forth between the desk and the unit behind it. It would be inconvenient to have them separate. So I wonder if the love seat to the left of the French doors would be the best option.

A wonderful idea! You could also turn your desk area into a L-shape so your furniture is not sticking out into the room and mobility between the two features is easy.

I try never to put a desk against the wall because it's just more comfortable for the user to face into the room. In this case, I would probably turn the desk so it faces the French doors. Of course, this loses your window view which may or may not be important to you.

What would be the purpose of the recliners, or the loveseat, for that matter? Would they be used by those listening to the piano?

Without seeing the other side of the room, I wonder if the piano could go to the right of the French doors (to the right as you face them), and if your seating could use that whole corner where the piano is now.

Can you caddy corner the piano, near the french doors to the dining room. This would free up some wall space for a small loveseat/settee/bench.

Those are all great ideas that I hadn't thought of. I think my preference would be to face into the room like groveraxle mentioned. The purposes of the comfortable seating are for listening to our daughters sing and play the piano and occasionally when my husband works from home he likes to recline while reading long (and boring!) documents. Later I'll take pics facing the French doors so you can see that angle. I think the left side of the French doors (when you're facing them) might hit the piano player if we put it caddy corner as you suggested shirlpp but I like the idea if we can do it. I'll check it out when I get home. Oh and we would not want to block the windows. Thx so much for your time everyone!!

Thanks for the extra photos. Looks like the piano won't fit flat on either side of the French doors. I wouldn't angle it. I'd try it on the wall to the left of the credenza/hutch unit, then put two recliners where the piano is now with a table in between. Before you commit, take some painter's tape and mark them out on the floor to see how they fit.

I think that the SW collonade gray would look fine in this room as well, as some other gray that is close to collonade gray.

I see your swatches on the wall in the dining room; I assume one of those is the Colonnade Gray. You could continue it here, go a shade lighter or darker on the same paint strip, or you could do a color. The Sherwin Williams site gives a couple of complementary colors that might appeal.

I would, however, choose your rug and chairs first, then we can help steer you to a color that will go with them and with the dining room.

I also note that your door casing is white, baseboard a medium wood, and doors a natural wood. I would paint them all the same white.

Going through your ideabook, I note that you seem to be drawn to blues and greens like this:

If this is a color that appeals, start your rug search in this direction. Find one you love, then start an inspiration board where you put your dining room colors, this rug, your furniture so you can see how everything works together.

(You might start a new ideabook called "Office" to save the ideas you're considering.

I'd turn the desk to the window. trust me, my desk faces a window and I LOVE IT! I'd also put some kind of semi-opaque curtains on the french door. Don't know about you but my office is kind of messy and I wouldn't want to be serving dinner guests looking into a messy office. Think I'd go with the love seat - maybe adjacent to the wall unit. Or, if all dimensions work out, put the piano adjacent to the wall unit and a love seat where the piano is. Chaise in office - sounds great! but if you are like me, not much work would get done! I'd be napping!

I'm going to do as u suggested and create a new idea book called "office" bc some of the other ideas were old and based on our previous house. I was going to ask about what size rug but I think the size you put in there looks great! Thx shirlpp and Nancy Amy! I talked to my husband about facing the window but he doesn't want his back to the rest of the room. He likes it now since he's facing the room but can also look out the window. We're not sure how we feel about both rooms being gray so I'm going to look into the complimentary colors on the Sherwin Williams website. I didn't know they did that!! As for the trim, all will be Dove white after we figure out our office room color and hire a painter. Thank you!!!!

Forget the rug -- wood floors look great. Wonderful natural light.

Instead of living room recliners, consider adding a pair of upscale high back executive desk chairs that recline or have an accompanying foot stool instead. Don't buy chairs on line -- sit in them before you buy. Important note: Some desk chairs that have matching ottomans are not comfortable unless you're actually using the ottomans because they tilt down in front.

Your assistant is, I see, sleeping on the job. Cute pooch.
