Vintage Wisk detergent tablets arrived today!!!

last modified: 10 years ago

The box smells great, and looks basically brand new. What detergent you can smell through the packaging, this Wisk smells clean and fresh. SO nothing like most current detergent offerings.

Who keeps things like this untouched?

60 tablets, 2 in a packet. The tablets however have 100% disintegrated, and now the individual packets are a powder. Interestingly, they are perfectly smooth and free flowing...absolutely no clumps or tablet remnants!! They smell clean and fresh.

They are manufactured by Lever Bros. and are Made in Italy! WOW.

I will be washing a CA King sized sheet set in a little bit. Fingers crossed!!! Super excited. #LaundryDork :)

No "ring around the collar" there. Remember that campaign and making pastes out of powders? There is something fascinating about the vintage products.

I didn't realize that pods and tabs were an old idea not a new one. These are very cool!

So unlike the Vintage Tide tablets that were and are SUDS-o-RAMA, these seem perfect!! I'm thinking the Made in Italy might help, since Euro machines even in the 80's and 90's were frontloading and lower water usage than USA top loaders. Here is a pic of me washing a CA King sheet set with 4 pillowcases, 120F. Perfect sudsing, and the scent is so old fashioned detergent...clean, light and nothing sweet!!!

MamaP will LOVE the ingredients!!! ;)

**Update** Vintage Wisk tabs (well now powder, LOL) works AMAZING. Low suds, easy rinsing, very clean & light smell, deep cleans and my sheets feel so unbelievably soft. Even taking them from the washer to the dryer, they felt so silky & smooth. After drying, the cotton fibers look and feel so cared for, silky smooth and wonderful!

I will use this for large loads, like sheets and towels. Since the 2 tabs per packet have disintegrated, it's too hard to divide the amounts. But using a whole packet for my sheets, the sudsing and rinsing was perfect! GREAT eBay treasure today!!!

Congrats Larsi, I'm so happy for you what a nice treasure. I think these are the same detergent tablets that Launderess over on AW has used at times, but she crumbled hers, I can't remember why, maybe I'll snoop around, I'm curious as to why she did that lol.

But anyway, enjoy your new loot..lol XOXO

They were low suds and had a very clean scent. Too bad not still being made.

Larsi...I know you threw the Tide tablet boxes out...but did you save me a tablet? Pretty pretty please with a cherry on top...I so want to make a tiny cute frame..kinda like a tiny framed window box for the tablet..I know I'm CRAY-CRAY!!!

@ MamaP....Yes, I had to throw the box away due to mold! I gave ALL the tablets to the neighbor lady across the street :-O She loves them in her big, old top loader for the late 80's or early 90's (major water user).

I emailed Mitch for you, to see if he can mail you one. I will pay for shipping for you, if he can send you one. I think though, he might want to keep the box sealed!

SO Sorry Cheryl. I would have for sure kept a packet, if I knew how badly you wanted one. I feel bad now!!

OMG. Yes... I'm finally catching up, after a long day.

Larsi... these were made by Lever Brothers, or "Unilever" (Parent Company) years & years ago. I know... a lot of us, have used or think of Wisk.. as the current product, made by Sun (absorbed Huish)... but this, is a real piece of laundry history. That's Orginal, Orginal Wisk, made by Lever, just... Whoa.

Please don't take offense of this. But.. I don't think the country they we're manufactured in, had anything to do with the formula being low-sudsing. I think it had more to do, with the fact that Unilever had a "tried & true" formula, from their overseas operations, and decided to try it in America.

Also... *and this is all speculation* but Maytag, allegedly did try to work with detergent companies to develop a "HE" or Low-Sudsing detergent, before.. they we're really a thing than. I *do* know they worked with Lever Brothers. This would have been in '98 or '99, when these Tabs launched. And I know they launched before the Tide Tabs.

Who knows. Larsi... that's a legendary find ;)

Wisk Dual Action Laundry Detergent Tablets were first introduced in the US by Unilever in 2000, I don't think they had a long life span in the US, but I haven't a clue as to when they went off market or why. I only know they launched towards the end of 2000, so Larsi you most likely have a product that could be 15 years old. Very cool!

Larsi, got inspired by your find and looked at my own stash of Wisk tabs. The tabs I have are the one's with color safe bleach. When they were fazing all the tab out, I just happened to be at my local CVS and saw that they marked down all their tabs left on the shelf. At the time I bought all of them--- Tide, Wisk, and Purex. I kept about half a box of Tide, one 2 tablet dosage of the Purex, and an unopened box of the Wisk with bleach for posterity. Hope yours still smell good and are working well in your Miele.

tideman..Wisk tabs smell great and work great. Love them. Although they are no longer tabs...they have totally disintegrated into a powder, but work amazing!!

I bought some of those 20yrs ago because I was lugging a couple heavy baskets of clothes across my apartment complex to do laundry and gallons of detergent were a hair too far, so I figured individual packets would be ideal.

it was until I was going bananas itching and squirming and finally breaking out into a rash for a week. never having had an allergy to anything ever, it didn't even occur to me that it was the detergent and allergic reaction. it did eventually, and I ended up leaving a nearly full box of wisk in apartment laundry room for someone else to use. I'm 42 now and i've only had this happen twice. wisk and a korean moisturizer (I use same brand daily, but different formula broke me out like crazy) I think I still have PTSD from the whole ordeal. I avoid trying new brands of detergent now
