Soapstone help in Dallas, TX

We are about to start the remodel of our house and I am completely sold on soapstone for our kitchen workspace. However, my builder, designer and everyone else is telling me that soapstone is the worst. It seems like there is a lot of misinformation out there about soapstone in general. I am looking for a stone yard in Dallas that is knowledgable on the subject. Does anyone know of one? Or is it hard to find locally and most of you end up having it shipped to you? Thanks so much!!

I can't help you with Dallas but we experienced the same thing in CT. The stone yards would have one slab they couldn't tell us anything about and discouraged us from buying. Our contractor was clueless. Everyone pushing towards granite. We went to Teixeira in NJ, fortunately we are close enough. Fantastic experience and we love them (hard variety; stormy black). We redid a kitchen about 10 years ago in Dallas with soapstone counters. It was even harder back then to find stone yards and fabricators that were familiar with it. I'm not 100% sure, but I think we went with Stone Channel in Coppell. Just added soapstone a couple months ago in dallas. Went with Latera Surfaces. http://www.laterasurfaces.com. They have a small slab room that they co-locate in a kitchen related warehouse. That said, their product is good and they do mostly soapstone. Multiple types to you can view in person.
