Sacked brick finish washed off--Is this normal??

Our sacked brick has been a disaster from the get-go.

I'm unhappy with the distinct swirls (and on the other side, a top that doesn't match the bottom). GC and bricker "have a plan" to fix it.

Then it rained for two days straight, and we were left with this:

Meanwhile, the other side looks like the before pic. Nothing washed off probably because the rain wasn't blowing directly on it. What the heck is going on here? Will the mortar magically reappear once it dries out?

I almost went with a "slurried/mortar washed" finish with the brick on our new house because I love the look, but finally convinced myself that I was taking something low maintenance (brick) and making it higher maintenance. How did they achieve your finish? I'm just wondering why it looks so swirly, especially at the top?

I love the look also! Which is why I'm so sad it's been such a major FAIL so far.

Not sure how they did the finish. Appears they used a sack and made a swirl motion. I'm willing to bet it was the most junior guy stuck sacking with little (to ZERO) supervision.

At least GC agrees that it looks like crap and needs to be fixed. I'd be upset if I had to fight on this one. And so far it's the only misstep (knock on wood). "Could be worse. Could be raining."
