Choosing a new dining room table

Hi, I'm needing a new dining room table and chairs to compliment the bar cart in my dining room. Currently there is big flowery wallpaper in the room, however, my landlord is letting me choose new wallpaper or paint (I live in the northeast and have horsehair plaster in the walls). I'd like an extension table, round I think as I like the conversational aspect of round, but, also, like the look of rectangular farm table type. I'm just not sure what type of table would go with this beast of a bar cabinet! Thank you.

What shape is your room? If it's square a round table would be great but if it's rectangular then a farmhouse type table will work. Either shape will work with your beast, just watch your wood tones.

Sorry, I know the room is an utter mess. I've just moved in. The room is sort of square except for these 3 beautiful windows that sort bump out. I'm thinking this wallpaper will come down and white walls will go with I the dark woodwork, but am completely unsure. This house is about 100 years old. Any help with what to do with this mess is greatly appreciated!!

That big desk is NOT staying.

Wow, tons of potential! The windows are fabulous. I would put the beast in the center of the windows, remove the wallpaper for sure! Then a farmhouse table would work perfectly. Are you keeping the desk, moving it to another room? If not, you can make your own farmhouse table by buying wide wood planks and screwing them onto the top of the desk. We did this with an old small table, total cost was $60.

I love the idea about centering by the windows! But what wood tone? Does it have to match the bar cabinet? Not sure how to choose. Must have looked at 1,000 pictures! Starting to lose my mind :)

This is the other side of my room of shame. The other rooms in the flat are coming together, but...

What wood tone for the.....table? I'm confused. I wouldn't have it match the beast, too matchy matchy. Instead, paint it white or have it match the gorgeous window trim. If you paint your walls a soft white and match the table to the trim it would be stunning.

And yes, losing your mind is all part of the fun but don't worry, it'll come back!

Perhaps "wood tone" is not really what I'm asking. The question is more what style? I apologize for the quality of these pictures, but would these options look good and, if so, does anyone know how I can find them. These are just old pictures of things I like, dining set & wallpaper sample (the rest of the apartment is wallpapered, wonder if I should stick with it.

Yes Maureen! I think you just summed up what I was having difficulty putting into words. I was almost wonder if a glass top table such as West Elm's Jensen table might work? Those wallpaper samples are pretty.

I really like that table, but I wouldn't go with the matching chairs. Maybe a chair like below (see pictures above for the look). Then add a fun chandelier (and wallpaper if you go that route).

I like that chair- perhaps white would work? It can feel dark in there.

White is nice as well, and the pictures may help to imagine.
