Perhaps a brighter rug under the table and comfier chairs. They look a bit unfriendly and perhaps that's the vibe they send off. Even chair cushions would help a bit. Add something on the table , a centerpiece or a colored runner with a candle to give it some personality.

If it's in the budget, I would suggest replacing the table with either an oval or a round one. You have some furniture with straight lines already, and I feel that an oval or a round table would help soften the look. Also, from my personal experience, no one liked to sit at our rectangular table. And then (it just so happened, we moved and had to acquire a new table, got an oval one) voila, everyone congregates and just loves to sit at our oval table. Go figure!

P.S. You might also try a brigher rug under the table.

I agree, your house is beautiful! I can't tell for sure, but if that's a buffet behind the table I would always place beverages and glasses there when guests are coming. If there is space, one or two appetizers. It will draw part of your crowd to that area I would think.

The current dining setup is rather utilitarian looking, like you go there to get the eating over with and then move to comfier areas.

It needs more visual interest and to give off a vibe of more comfort. Previous posters have made good suggestions how to achieve that.
