propagate red jade vine

Anybody have luck propagating Mucuna benettii aka Red Jade Vine?
I took a mix of woody and soft cuttings the other day, and all the leaves have died.

What's the trick?

    Hi

Wish I could help, both the red and the blue are among the worlds most gorgeous vines!!. I managed to kill mine long before I got to the propagating stage lol Would think they would be fantastic in Hawaii?? gary

I took some pictures of mine, but mistakenly deleted them, will try to get more.

It covers an entire 20' x 6' fence with blooms (chainlink makes an excellent trellis). Then it sprawls off into the yard for another 20 feet or so, out-competing most of the weeds. Every bit of it is in full bloom right now.

I have a couple of blue jade vines, but they are a bit younger and not nearly as spectacular.

I read something about ground-layering the vine, think I'll haul some pots of soil (and the camera) up there and try.

    hi

Must be spectacular!! Only one I've seen in full flower was at Fairchild gdns.,growing into a tree .Inspired me to kill a couple lol

I think the remarkable thing about the blue is the color more like a turquoise than blue or green.

Hope you show the pix!! gary

Took new pix yesterday, then lost the camera. Turns out husband put it in the glove box.

Here's the front gate. The fence is 6 feet high. Lawn needs mowing.

And here's the vine outcompeting uluhe fern, bamboo orchids (aka damnboo orchids), and various grasses.

The first blue jade vine I saw was growing in a tree, and I thought somebody had hung weird plastic plants from the tree--they look just like cheap aquarium plants. Once I figured out it was real, I wanted one! Now I have 2, plus the red.

I've seen seeds for a "yellow jade vine", not sure which (if either) plant it's related to. They were quite expensive, so I thought I'd wait until everybody was growing them and get a plant cheap. : )

They're a couple of vines I been wanting for a while but never got around to getting. Not commonly available, probably due to size they're not so popular so nurseries tend not to stock them. The yellow one is Mucuna sloanei.

    Hi

They are very rare here also . I got mine from a palm specialty nursery.Have yet to see one in a landscape . They are very cold sensitive but you shouldn't have that problem.. I'm guessing they are difficult to propagate because they sold all 25 they had for 50 bucks each!! I may try one again if I can find one but not for 50 bucks lol

Certainly are showy, thanks for the pic!! gary

    Hi

I asked around and a couple of local plant gurus told that only way they've had success was stretching the vine out and putting soil on top of it . Sounds like it might work, nothing to lose anyway ?? gary

Gary, that would be ground-layering. It's been raining like crazy here all month, haven't gotten that started.
