We took the wall out between the kitchen and the dining room to make family gatherings more comfortable and inclusive. The wall opening left was almost 13 '.This gave us an open kitchen/dining room with 2 dining areas; one in the kitchen and one in the dining room-good for our large family I lost my built in wooden glass cabinets that housed wine glasses and china, and drawers as a result. Plans to put it elsewhere have not panned out.

The island (7' x 4') that we have been planning in this space will have a double sink and dishwasher and a cupboard on the kitchen side. I think that it should probably have cupboards on the dining room side as well (and maybe a small beverage frig.) I have toyed with using part of that side for stools to sit up to the island, but not sure about that. This leaves about 3' on either 4' side of the island to pass through to the dining area. The range will be against the wall facing the sink etc. with a cupboard next to it and then the frig next and upper cupboards over all of these. There will be about 42" between the row- of range, cupboard, frig- and the island. Are the dimensions of the island going to work? Any suggestions about it? I also have a large hutch with drawers and cupboards and shelves that will be against another wall adjacent to the island, after the 3' pass ( in the eat in part of the kitchen). Because of a number of doors, there is not much extra space for more cabinets.
